Book Review! Genes by Mary Ting

Genes (International Sensory Assassin Network #3) by Mary Ting
Genre: Young Adult (Dystopian/Romance)
Date Published:  June 30, 2020
Publisher: Vesuvian Books

ALLEGIANCES WILL BE TESTED.
IDENTITIES WILL BE REVEALED.
NO ONE IS SAFE.

While searching for the HelixB88 anti-serum on the black market, Ava uncovers valuable intel that may help the rebels in their fight to bring down ISAN—the location of a hidden facility. But first, the insurgents must find the female citizens unexpectedly displaying powers without use of the Helix serum before ISAN captures them.

As the rebels join forces with other sectors, ISAN plans their destruction by using someone they don’t suspect at the rebel home base. A traitor within.

Now, Ava must make a dangerous decision, one that could risk their capture—or worse.

Genes is the third book in the ISAN series by Mary Ting. For some reason I went into reading this one thinking it was the final book. Thankfully, it is not. I love the characters in this book. All of them. Good. Bad. Seemingly good. Seemingly bad. All in between. Each character has something to contribute to this story. There was so much going on all through the story. Hardly a dull moment. And, you never really knew what was going to happen next. I loved that. We're given the answers to some things only to have more questions take there place. It's like adding fuel to the fire that already keeps me wanting more.

The ARC of Genes by Mary Ting was kindly provided to me by Xpresso Book Tours for review. The opinions are my own.

International Bestselling, Award-Winning, Author Mary Ting/M. Clarke resides in Southern California with her husband and two children. She enjoys oil painting and making jewelry. Writing her first novel, Crossroads Saga, happened by chance. It was a way to grieve the death of her beloved grandmother, and inspired by a dream she once had as a young girl. When she started reading new adult novels, she fell in love with the genre. It was the reason she had to write one-Something Great. Why the pen name, M Clarke? She tours with Magic Johnson Foundation to promote literacy and her children’s chapter book-No Bullies Allowed.

Top 10 Week! My Favorite Book Boyfriends of 2019

These are my favorite book boyfriends from books I've read in 2019. These guys know how to keep a girl's attention! They are in no particular order.

Avalon from Set in Stone by Kylie Stewart. Who knew King Arthur was so swoonworthy?! That word doesn't do him justice at all. He's guarded, steamy, broody, intense.. and so much more.

Check out my review of Set in Stone
Jack from Marquess to a Flame by Emily Windsor. Jack talks a big talk, but he's super cute on the inside... a bad boy with a teddy bear heart.

West from Devil's Daughter by Lisa Kleypas. Finally getting West's story was well worth the wait. His personality is so much fun, and that energy seeps of the pages.

Check out my review of Devil's Daughter
Andrew from The Edge of Reason by J. Saman. I love when the smolder seeps off the pages. This guy? He's the King of Smolder.

Check out my review of The Edge of Reason.

Julian and Legend from Finale by Stephanie Garber. I can't pick just one. They both deserve to be on this list for different, mystical, magical, intoxicating reasons.

Check out my review of Finale
Somebody Nobody from Tell Me Three Things. He won me over three things at a time.

Rhett from Helix by Mary Ting. His persistence and dedication to Ava is beyond compare. Rhett gives me warm fuzzies all over.

Check out my review of Helix.
Garret from Every Minute by C.J. Burright. He's entertaining and steamy. When Garret is around, there's fun to be had.

Check out my review of Every Minute.

Brek from Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland. He's Mr. Wrong in all the right ways. Whew!

Going Down on One Knee by Christina Hovland
Finch from All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven. It's been weeks since I read this book, and I'm still thinking about Finch. That says something. Also, he broke my heart, but I'll never forget him.

Book Review! Helix by Mary Ting

Helix (International Sensory Assassin Network #2) by Mary Ting
Genre: Young Adult (Dystopian/Romance)
Date Published:  September 10, 2019
Publisher: Vesuvian Books

Alliances are forming. The resistance is growing. Everything is about to change.

With her memory still fragmented, Ava returns to the International Sensory Assassin Network (ISAN) to find the twin sister she never knew she had.

But as Ava hunts for information, she finds herself tangled in a web of yet more lies and conspiracy. The Helix serum may not be required to access her superpowers, and the number of male assassins—previously considered too volatile to tolerate Helix—is growing in every territory.

The more Ava uncovers, the more of a threat she becomes to ISAN. Her only salvation may be to join the rebels—if she isn’t killed first.

Helix is the second book in the International Sensory Assassin Network series by Mary Ting. We got both Ava and Rhett's perspective within this book. Like the first book, it was a lil slow to start up, but then it gets going. This was a hard one to put down, guys. Let me tell you. There was so much of everything.. danger, suspense, mystery, romance, sadness, happiness... everythingness. I loved Ava in the first book. I still love her.. maybe even more. I feel like I got to know Rhett more this time around too. The two of them together are electric. When they'd get separated for one reason or another, it was seriously hard to deal with. I felt like I was there with them in the book. We get to meet new people and go to new places this time around as well. It was pure craziness from start to finish. Good craziness. I was so frustrated, because I couldn't read it fast enough with things like work and sleep getting in the way. Also, I need that next book!
