Book Review: Legend of the Touched by J.F. Jenkins

Legend of the Touched (The Dragons Saga #3) by J.F. Jenkins
Genre: Young Adult (Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: May 28, 2012
Publisher:  Astraea Press

Darien and Tai Oceina have not been married for long, but already they have one of the most complicated relationships and it hasn't even been a year yet. He is the leader of a nation and a dragon. She is carrying their first child who is supposed to be “the answer”. As Darien dives further into the politics of his people, a wedge is driven deeper between him and his wife.

Twin brothers Jason and Matthias Inero were always inseparable. For the first time in their lives they are apart from each other. Matt continues to do the will of their father, the corrupted Dragon Lord of the Inero, while Jason has fled with his bride to an island where he can forget about everything. Or try to. Being possessed by a demon makes that hard to achieve, and as the creature fights to control his body, Jason discovers a lot of shocking truths about his lineage and destiny.

The two worlds of fire and water collide as both dragon tribes prepare for war with the other. Matthias is determined to crush Darien's people. Only an ancient spell will give Darien enough power to fight back and have any hope at winning. The spell is complicated however and requires all four dragon tribes to work together in harmony. Something that is a lot easier said than done.

Legend of the Touched is the third book in the Dragons Saga by J.F. Jenkins. This book took off right where the previous two ended. All the perspectives that were divided in the first two books are included within this book, so we see the point of view from six different characters. I'm not normally a big fan of so many point of views within one book, but since we were really able to get to know Tai and Darien in book one as well as Jason, Gwen, Matt, and Kat in book two, it was easy to distinguish between each point of view change and actually enhanced the story, helping it progress smoothly. This is a series you need to read from the beginning.

At this point, I can't comment too much without letting a spoiler or two loose. There is definitely a good vs evil battle going on here, and those on the bad side don't necessarily even know they are on the side of evil. I made predictions while reading the first two books as to what I thought would happen, and I'm happy to say they weren't all right. I loved that. The resolution happened a little quickly, but with that being said, this book thoroughly wrapped up this part of the story line. I'm glad the series isn't over though. I'm enthralled by this world. I look forward to more Dragon Saga adventures!

Book Review: Legend of the Inero Dragon by J.F. Jenkins

Legend of the Inero Dragon (The Dragons Saga #2) by J.F. Jenkins
Genre: Young Adult (Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: January 16, 2012
Publisher:  Astraea Press

Twin brothers Jason and Matthias Inero are the favorite sons of the great dragon lord of fire. More often than not they get whatever they want. Matt wants to do great things for his people while Jason wants to go off and explore the world. Both can have what they desire, but not until they take a bride and enter into adulthood.

Enter Kat and Gwen, two girls from very different backgrounds. Kat is happy to leave her home when the royal guard comes to bring her to loving arms of her childhood sweetheart, Matt. Gwen on the other hand is livid to be taken from her farm only to be thrust into Jason's life, and he's not to thrilled with the idea either. They have one year to find happiness with each other, or else they will be placed at the mercy of the ruthless dragon lord Lynx. Favorite or not, dragon law must be obeyed.

As their nation begins to prepare for war against a neighboring tribe, the brothers find themselves as key components in the battle plans. A dark prophet has had a vision of Inero victory, but at what cost? Both must decide where their loyalties lie and what they're willing to sacrifice – including each other – to achieve their goals.

Legend of the Inero Dragon by J.F. Jenkins is the second book in the Dragons Saga. With this book we are given the perspectives of Jason and Matt Inero and their chosen wives, Kat and Gwen. Jason and Matt are twins and couldn't be more different. Jason and Kat were best friends long before she was chosen to be one of the elite. Their relationship has the best chance of survival going in, but the more time went on the more it seems they have a lot to work on. I sense some hard times coming. I don't like Matt. At all. He's a jerk. While he is in love with Kat now, I wonder how long that will really last. Something Lynx, Jason and Matt's father, said makes me afraid tragedy is on the horizon for them.

Jason and Gwen didn't know each other prior to Gwen being chosen as an elite. Jason doesn't want to marry someone he doesn't love, but he is forced to choose a wife. It's customary. Gwen would rather pass too. They are both taking things really slow. The Inero Dragons are known for hopping from wife to wife, and Jason doesn't want to do that. He wants it to be about love. Needless to say, he's my favorite, but I'm worried about him quite a bit for reasons I can't say without giving away a major spoiler.

I love how this book gives you the Inero side to the events that took place in book one. I have to say, the Ineros are pretty unpleasant as a whole. Something is building. A battle maybe? There is an aspect of good vs evil beginning to appear that I didn't expect. This is turning into a pretty unique series. I'm curious to see what happens next.

Book Review: Legend of the Oceina Dragon by J.F. Jenkins

Legend of the Oceina Dragon (The Dragons Saga #1) by J.F. Jenkins
Genre: Young Adult (Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: February 21, 2011
Publisher:  Astraea Press

Darien Oceina is the youngest son of the Great Dragon Lord of the Water. For years he's loved and cherished Tai Dawson from afar. Tai is a simple, ordinary girl who doesn¹t even know Darien exists. On his eighteenth birthday, he chooses her as his wife. But there’s one problem: She thinks his choice means she¹s going to be offered as a sacrifice to the Dragon Lord, but instead, she's forced to move to his home, far away, to give up her life and be his bride.

When she first sees Darien after the ceremony, she doesn’t expect to feel anything but hatred toward him. The two are struggling with the complications of a new marriage when their nation is attacked by a rival dragon species. Together they learn to love one another while they struggle to stay one step ahead in a game where the prize is their survival.

Legend of the Oceina Dragon in the first book in The Dragons Saga by J.F. Jenkins. This was a different kind of love story. Darien loves Tai, who he's never officially met until he marries her.  Tai doesn't love him. She doesn't know him. She learns that the Oceina Dragons seem to be hopelessly devoted to their wives, and the longer she's around Darien, and the more she learns about their ways, the more her fondness starts to grow. I thought the process happened kind of quickly for Tai. I understood her reservations in the beginning, but I thought she started to come around a little too quickly. So, I'm not sure I can say she's really in love yet. Also, I really think one of the guys at school is going to give Darien a run for his money. I don't like that guy at all, but I have a feeling Tai might. I wonder why they are still in high school. They are old enough to just be starting college, plus the book says that going to school is optional for them at this time. If I were Tai, I would want to learn more about my new surroundings rather than starting at a brand new school on top of all the other new-ness.

I enjoyed this take on dragons. It was unique and creative. There are four different types of dragons. They each have their own regions they govern and many different customs. There's something going on too. I'm not sure what just yet, but something is definitely stirring among the other dragon tribes. I'm glad this is a series because there is so much more I want to know about these dragons. They're pretty interesting.
