The Vampire Heir (Rite of the Vampire Saga #1) by Juliana Haygert
Genre: New Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: March 5, 2018
Cover Artist: Moonchildljilja (fantasybookdesign.com)

A young woman with a secret. A man with a death sentence. And a terrible fate that might destroy them both …

When I was invited to the secretive castle DuMoir, I knew I’d end up dead. The guests might be excited by the exclusive tour around the estate, and the ending ball that concludes it, but I know better.

The castle’s inhabitants are vampires. And they want our blood.
I must find a way to survive their feast, because I’m not here as a clueless visitor. I’m here for a reason. Undercover work can be hard, but I’ve been through worse. That is until I unwillingly become a blood slave to Drake, a mysterious, brooding vampire prince.

Tragedy strikes the castle and chaos arise. Despite the new dangers surrounding us, I soon find out there’s more to Drake than he lets on, and feelings I’m not supposed to have stir in my chest.

But I can’t afford any distractions or everything will be lost. After all, I’m hiding a secret—a dark secret that might save us all … or doom us forever.

Strange neighbors. Hidden Desires. Small-town charm.

Welcome to Willow Harbor, where everyone has a secret.

What’s yours?

Shifter’s Fate (Willow Harbor #1)Sometimes fate can’t be ignored…

Mattie is desperate when she accepts a librarian position in the small coastal town of Willow Harbor. She plans to spend a few months there, enough time to get a reference and move somewhere she actually wants to be. But fate has other plans.

Pierce has given up on finding his mate. His family line of true shapeshifters will die out, but there is nothing he can do with only a few weeks left before his birthday. Until Mattie shows up in town.

When Mattie’s past catches up, and Pierce’s family turns on him, will fate be enough to see them through?

Vampire’s Descent (Willow Harbor #2)Sometimes the past comes back with a vengeance…

Claire Meyers knows her twin brother Danny didn’t commit suicide. Determined to prove it, she heads to her hometown of Willow Harbor, South Carolina to learn what really happened. Only what she finds is more than she bargained for.

Mason Danver didn’t ask to become a vampire. He didn’t ask for his soulless marker to seek him out either. All he wants is to help the one girl he’s never allowed himself to have figure out what really happened to her brother.

As the mystery surrounding Claire’s brother’s death begins to unfold Mason learns he’s more connected to Danny’s death than he ever thought possible.
Hunter’s Revenge (Willow Harbor #3)Sometimes all you want is revenge …

As a human who knows the supernatural world exists, Tessa Ford has always felt like an outsider. It doesn’t help her estranged father barely wanted her around and that she’s never quite fit into her mother’s new family. Going away to college seemed like a blessing in disguise, until she realized she still has to pretend to be happy there too.

After losing his entire family to demons and becoming a hunter, Landon Armstrong didn’t think he had anything else to lose. Until a demon kills the man who raised him as his own and gave him a purpose at a young age. Now Landon is set on finding the demon responsible for taking that man away from him and exacting revenge. He has one task to check off his list first…notify the man’s daughter of his passing.

When Landon unexpectedly shows up to inform Tessa her father has passed away, she doesn’t know what to feel. All she knows is that she wants—needs—a chance to prove herself and help Landon take down the demon responsible. Too bad for her Landon is adamant that she’s not cut out to be a hunter. Tessa isn’t about to let that stop her. Even if in the end, she dies trying to take the demon down alone…

Triton’s Curse (Willow Harbor #4)Sometimes freedom comes at a cost…

As the last in a line of powerful witches, Grace McKay has been held captive for years by a greedy demon who treated her more like a possession than a human being. Three days ago, she escaped. Sure that he’s out searching for her, Grace runs as far and as fast as she can. That is, until she falls asleep at the wheel and crashes her car in the mysterious town of Willow Harbor.

Once a mighty triton, Leonidas Kosta is now a slave. Ten years ago, he trusted the wrong person and ended up shackled, cursed to live in human form, and the prisoner of a manipulative siren named Selena. Leo resigned himself to his misery long ago, but when a beautiful and secretive woman named Grace crashes near the docks where he works, she awakens something inside him he’d thought was lost.

Both desperate for freedom and a life on their own terms, Leo and Grace are reluctant to open their hearts to anyone. But when the demon tracks Grace down and Leo’s boss demands far more than he’s willing to pay, will they have the courage to trust each other? Or will their freedom be taken from them forever?

I love, love, love looking at book covers. Almost as much as I love reading them. So, picking my favorite covers each year is tough, but fun. The following covers are from books released in 2016. I've read them all except for When Ash Rains Down, which I started at the very end of 1016, and am finishing up now. Love the cover though, so I had to include it! You can click on the images for the rest of them to read my reviews. All these covers pretty much speak for themselves. They are in no particular order.

Guest Post with E.S.P., Author of Dawn of the Apocalypse!!

E.S.P. has stopped by the blog today to tell us about her book cover adventures & misadventures. We are happy to have her here, and without further ado I'm handing the blog reins over to her!
Dawn of the Apocalypse is my first book. It's very precious to me. So I spent many hours trying to find the best cover designer for my book. One day I stumbled across Steven Novak Illustrations. Not only were his designs amazing, but he has the same name as the famous basketball player. I don't know about you, but I call that a sign.

Needless to say, Steven was the only one I seriously considered to design my book cover. So when I felt like I was ready to go, I asked him to design my cover. I emailed him a bunch of information and waited for his designs. I wanted my cover to look most like this picture:

Two to four days later…

I come home and I get an email. He finally had something for me to look at. SO I opened up my inbox, and I got this:

When I saw this, it immediately made me think of one of those books they sell at Target that are originally $14.99 and get marked down to a dollar. This is not what I wanted. At all.

I could go on for hours slandering this picture, but in a short this looks like a cheesy romance novel. Not a blood thirsty apocalypse. And that girl's nose is humongous.

In all fairness, I highly doubt that Steven expected me to buy this image. He was just giving me something to look over and build off of. So when I went back to him with an even longer email, I got this almost immediately after:

I actually do like this image. It has grown on me. Every time I look at it, I find something I like about it.

It didn't really fit my book's image though, and that's a tip I have for all of you. Even if it's nice, that doesn't mean it's a good representation of your book. This would be awesome if my book took place in the fiery pits of Hell. But it takes place in New York City, so…

I was getting frustrated. I needed something that SCREAMED apocalypse. I had to go to my dad who has already gotten several book covers designed. He helped me to be more descriptive in my emails. So I sent him a third one. And this is what I got:

I think it's beautiful.

It's even better than the image I originally wanted the book to look like. It had the color sequence I requested and the smoke in the back…

It’s perfect.

Keep in mind that this whole process took about two days, starting on when I received my first cover. So two days for this masterpiece…

I kind of didn’t want to end the cover extravaganza, but I did. The only thing I asked was to change the color of my name from blue to white.

I think Novak Illustrations is a great place to go for affordable covers that are extremely well done. The worst part about getting a cover done is that you can't make people envision what you do. And I think with this cover, people will finally begin to see things like me.
I love, love, love how the cover turned out! It looks great! Now for a little about the book itself...

These are just a few of the days humans prophesied as bringing catastrophic events that would end the world. We predicted nuclear warfare. Drastic climate change. A call from God.

We were wrong.

Cue the gargoyle invasion—laboratory bred mutants designed to slaughter humans. When the government goes AWOL and gargoyles are swarming by the hundreds, it's up to the citizens of the United States to regroup and save themselves.

Meet Cliff Matthews, a teenage boy separated from his entire family with the exception of his younger sister, whom he is desperate to keep alive. Along the quest to save their lives, he encounters people who aren't all that they seem. Everyday's a battle, but if he can't trust his own species, where does that leave his family?

And we can't forget the man who may be willing to sacrifice Cliff's life, if it means world domination.

In terms of doomsday, no one could've seen this coming. The dawn of the apocalypse…
