Book Review: Captive Wolf by Alexis Calder

Captive Wolf (Unchained Hearts) by Alexis Calder
Genre: Adult Fiction (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: January 27, 2021
Publisher: Self

She’s my captive until sunrise. I have one night with her to make her mine.

Lucy

It’s the longest night of the year. Every wolf in my pack will spend the night running in the woods. Except me.

I should have had my first shift years ago, but it turns out, I’m a dud. Daughter of the pack alpha, they expected great things from me. Instead, I’m a disappointment. While the pack runs, I prepare to make a run for it. It’s time to start over somewhere new where nobody knows that wolf shifters are real.

Except there’s one tiny problem. I crossed into another pack’s territory and now I’m being held captive by their alpha and he’s pissed he’s on guard duty instead of running with his pack. I should be terrified of him, but with each passing second I find myself more and more drawn to his scent.

Carter

Her scent caught me from a mile away, making me hungry for her before I even saw her. But when I found her, she turned out to be the one woman I shouldn’t have anything to do with.

Our packs have been at odds for generations and while I lead my pack, her father leads the one pack that would kill me on sight. I should take her out but all I can think about is claiming her as mine forever.

Captive Wolf by Alexis Calder is a book included in the Unchained Hearts series by multiple authors. Each story within this series stands alone and takes place within the same Paranormal Underworld. This one is Lucy and Carter's story. It's shorter than the other books I've read by this author, but it includes everything I love about her books... the steamy romance, danger, wolves. All the good stuff in a smaller package. I'm not familiar with the other authors included in this series, but I may have to check out their books too.

Book Review! Hunger by Alexis Calder

Hunger (Royal Blood #2) by Alexis Calder
Genre: New Adult Fiction (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: August 23, 2022
Publisher: Self

Why can’t I stay away from the Vampire King?

I thought if I kept my head down and ignored the supernatural drama, I’d make it to the solstice and finally get free of Lost Harbor.

Instead, the dead vampires were just the beginning.

Something even worse has come to town and I’m forced to choose between the life I think I want and the male who has my heart.

Any choice I make feels like the wrong one.

This is book 2 of the Royal Blood Series. It is not a standalone. This book contains violence, steam, and mature themes.

Hunger is the second book in the Royal Blood Trilogy by Alexis Caulder. This on is a little different from the past series I’ve read by this author. That’s not a bad thing. Where I have little faith in the humanity of so many characters in the past series’. This trilogy offers a little hope  for characters I wouldn’t normally trust. Plus, there’s characters have some depth and a story behind them. Isla has a history she never imagined. I loved learning it all with her. The romance was nice, but it wasn’t the only thing to carry this story. There’s a lot going on here. I think this is supposed to be a trilogy, but this book seemed to wrap things up nicely. So, we’ll see. I’m always up for more by this author.--

The ARC of Hunger by Alexis Calder was kindly provided to me by Book Sprout for review. The opinions are my own.

Book Review! Obsession by Alexis Calder

Obsession (Royal Blood #1) by Alexis Calder
Genre: New Adult Fiction (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: May 31, 2022
Publisher: Self

I hate everything about the Vampire King. So why did I let him have a taste?

A momentary lapse of judgment in a coat closet leads me into the arms of the smoking hot Vampire King. In my defense, I didn’t know it was him. He’s not allowed in shifter territory and I’m not allowed near him. As a human living in a supernatural city, I’m near powerless around these monsters. The shifters protect me because they own me. Which means, I have to follow their rules.

If anyone finds out what I did, I’m screwed. Again. You know what I mean.

Nobody can know what happened, but the king isn’t going to let me forget. The Vampire King doesn’t like to be told no and for my rejection, he’s determined to make me pay.

Now I’m stuck in the middle between the shifters and the vampires. To the Vampire King, it’s a game; but it could cost me my life.

Obsession is book one in a dark, steamy, hate to love vampire romance trilogy. If you like dangerous monsters who take what they want, this book is for you. There are no good guys in this story. Mind the cliff. 17+ for dark themes, steam, and violence

Obsession is the first book in the Royal Blood series by Alexis Caulder. This story is told primarily from Isla's point of view, with a couple chapters told from Dante. Isla is a lowly human trapped in a supernatural world. Humans are basically disposable in the Crescent pack, and unless you've caught the eye of the Alpha's son, you're not safe as a human. Now it seems, vampires aren't safe either as they are being killed in gruesome ways. So, with Obsession, you have a steamy enemies to lovers romance, mysterious murders, and a plot that's detailed and both interesting and intricately woven in a way that pulls you right into their World.

Have you read the next book in this trilogy yet?

Book Review: Feral Queen by Alexis Calder

Feral Queen (Royal Blood #3) by Alexis Calder
Genre: New Adult Fiction (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: April 14, 2022
Publisher: Self

Ivy's quest for freedom might cost her everything.

The war between the Shadows and the Umbras will tear the entire shifter community apart. All the packs have picked a side and if something isn’t done, it could mean the end of everything.

The feral shifters outnumber the packs and with Ivy’s encouragement, they are ready to bring down the system that has oppressed them for so long.

Ivy will fight with the feral shifters, even if it means fighting against her mate.

Feral Queen is the riveting conclusion in the Rejected Fate trilogy. 17+ for dark content, steamy scenes, and language.

Feral Queen is the third book in the Rejected Fate trilogy by Alexis Calder. There was so much left to be done after the last book, I didn't think it'd be possible to fit it all in and tie up all loose ends in just one more book. But my goodness, she did it. I questioned a few characters along the way. There are so many ways Ivy could be stabbed in the back by someone she trusts. I liked how the book handled those situations and characters. I'm so proud of Ivy. So proud! She had tremendous growth through this series. She was realistic and believable! There is lots of action. Fighting. Romance. Sooo much happens in this book... I just can't even. Because if I did, I'd give away some kind of spoiler.

Book Review: Forbidden Sin by Alexis Calder

Forbidden Sin (Rejected Fate #2) by Alexis Calder
Genre: New Adult Fiction (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: February 23, 2022
Publisher: Self

Since returning from the Umbra Estate, I’ve traded one prison cell for another. Dax keeps me under guard, tracking my every movement. He says he wants to be with me, but I know he wants to use me for whatever dark power he thinks I possess.

The mating bond gets stronger by the day, pulling me to Madoc. I can’t be with my mate, but I can’t be with Dax, either. Both options will bring me nothing but heartache and ruin.

My only chance is to get away from the pack I worked so hard to join. But before I go, I must find out about my past. Which means another round of breaking into a building to steal documents.

Just as everything is starting to come together, it all falls apart.

It’s not just my life on the line anymore. It might just cost me everyone and everything I love.

Forbidden Sin is the second book in the Rejected Fate series. It is a full-length paranormal romance. 17+ for dark content, steamy scenes, and language. This is book two in a trilogy and is not a standalone. Mind the cliff.

Forbidden Sin is the second book in the Rejected Fate trilogy by Alexis Calder. The pacing is a little slower in this one, but you learn a lot about Ivy and what’s going on around her, both in situation and having to do with characters themselves. Once Madoc re-enters the scene, things pick up significantly. I enjoyed getting to know him a little better. I’m also enjoying the feral folks. I enjoyed them in the last series too. So far, there are no overlapping characters from that series, but this is the same world.. or it seems to be. This one ended when things were just about to get truly crazy. Thank goodness, I already have the next book!
