Book Review! Sweet Temptation by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Temptation (The Sweet Trilogy #4) by Wendy Higgins
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published:  September 8, 2015
Publisher: HarperTeen

Bad boy Kaidan Rowe has never wanted for anything—money, popularity, musical talent…hot girls—but seducing them is part of his duty as a Nephilim, slave to the demon Dukes. As the son of the Duke of Lust, Kaidan has learned his father’s ways, becoming a master of passion, a manipulator of chemistry. Disobeying his father would mean certain death. Thankfully for Kaidan, he’s good at his job. And he enjoys it.

Until he meets Anna Whitt—sweet, smart, feisty, and inexplicably good—the one girl seemingly immune to his charms. The daughter of a guardian angel and a fallen one, she has a certain power over him, one that makes him wish for more than he could ever deserve.

Determined to save all the Neph from their dark lives as the influencers of sin, Anna joins forces with Kaidan to overcome the demons’ oppressive ways. In the light of her affections, Kaidan must undergo his toughest test of all, a battle of the heart.

Sensual and swoon worthy, this companion volume to the acclaimed Sweet Evil series from New York Times bestselling author Wendy Higgins, told from the perspective of the irresistibly sexy and mysterious Kaidan Rowe, gives readers revealing insights into his struggle, his intense connection to Anna, and most of all, the true emotions that drive him.

Author Note:
Sweet Temptation will encompass the entire trilogy in a condensed version, beginning with Kai's life before he met Anna, and taking readers through the epilogue of Sweet Reckoning. Sweet Temptation is a companion novel, not meant to be a stand alone story. It will definitely be a richer experience for those who have read the original trilogy.

Sweet Temptation is the fourth book in the Sweet Series by Wendy Higgins. This book was a condensed version of the Trilogy seen through Kai's eyes. I've been looking forward to reading this book since I first heard about it. I didn't know how much reading his point of view would really mean for the trilogy as a whole until I read it though. It's completely necessary. This is already one of my favorite series, and getting Kai's viewpoint and now knowing what he was doing when Anna wasn't around added so much depth to this story. His thoughts and internal monologues are hilarious. I just love him that much more now. I enjoyed reading the final showdown through his eyes.. even more than Anna's point of view. It was definitely something special. If you're a fan of the Sweet trilogy, Sweet Temptation is a must read.

Book Review: Sweet Reckoning by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Reckoning (The Sweet Trilogy #3) by Wendy Higgins
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published:  April 29, 2014
Publisher: HarperTeen

It’s time.

Evil is running rampant and sweet Anna Whitt is its target. Nobody knows when or how the Dukes will strike, but Anna and her Nephilim allies will do anything necessary to rid the earth of the demons and their oppressive ways.

The stakes are higher than ever, and Anna is determined that the love she feels will be her strength, not a liability. But trying to protect the ones she loves while running for her life and battling demonic forces proves to be perilous—especially as faces are changing and trust is fleeting. When the Duke of Lust sends Anna’s great love, Kaidan Rowe, to work against her, Anna must decide how much she’s prepared to risk.

In the most sensual and fast-paced installment yet, Sweet Reckoning brings all the beloved Neph together one last time to fight for their freedom.

Sweet Reckoning is the third book in the Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins. First of all, I'm sad this trilogy is over. Very sad! I've become so hooked on Kai and Anna's story. I'm even attached to the supporting characters too. Within this book, everything we've prepared for in the first two books is finally coming together. We get a bit more steaminess among the nephs, and I really like how the author pulled that off and still kept it YA friendly.

There's quite a bit of character growth among all the characters. Kai probably has the most growth. He is almost unrecognizable from book one to book three, yet he keeps the smolder and attitude I love about him.

There were only a few issues I had, and they took place just before the epilogue. First of all, I expected a little more bang. That's all I'm going to say about that, as I don't want to give any spoilers. Also, I felt like a few things contradicted the former messages that were being spread within story. Am I over thinking it? Probably.

Over all, I love this trilogy! Love it!

Book Review: Sweet Peril by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Peril (The Sweet Trilogy #2) by Wendy Higgins
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published:  April 30, 2013
Publisher: HarperTeen

Anna Whitt, the daughter of a guardian angel and a demon, promised herself she’d never do the work of her father—polluting souls. She’d been naive to make such a vow. She’d been naive about a lot of things.

Haunted by demon whisperers, Anna does whatever she can to survive, even if it means embracing her dark side and earning an unwanted reputation as her school’s party girl. Her life has never looked more bleak. And all the while there’s Kaidan Rowe, son of the Duke of Lust, plaguing her heart and mind.

When an unexpected lost message from the angels surfaces, Anna finds herself traveling the globe with Kopano, son of Wrath, in an attempt to gain support of fellow Nephilim and give them hope for the first time. It soon becomes clear that whatever freedoms Anna and the rest of the Neph are hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Until then, Anna and Kaidan must put aside the issues between them, overcome the steamiest of temptations yet, and face the ultimate question: is loving someone worth risking their life?

Sweet Peril is the second book in the Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins. I loved this book just as much as the first which thrilled me to bits. I always worry about the second book in a series or trilogy because it almost never lives up to the first book. Not the case here. Kaiden and Anna are apart through part of this book for their safety. Anna is adapting very well to this new life. Though she hates her "job", she's doing what needs to be done to survive. I loved Kaiden in this book. You could feel the tension between  them. The way he calls her Little Ann is adorable too. Sure, I wanted to slap him around a little bit, but he did and said these things for a reason and I love him more for it. I got to know Kopano more in this book too. I really like him. Not necessarily for Anna, because well.. let's face it, I'm Team Kaiden all the way, but Kopano is the kind of guy you just want to be held by. Through all his stiffness and seriousness, he just seems cuddly when it comes to the ladies. I love all the tension and chemistry between the characters of this book. This trilogy is intoxicating. I enjoyed every minute of reading this book. Everything is coming together and building towards the finale. I'm so completely hooked on  these characters. There's no help for me now, but I don't care! I can't wait for more!!

At nearly three in the morning sleepiness weighted my body as we lay there together so still. I heard his breathing even out as we both hovered in that place between wake and sleep. And then his hand wandered lazily down my back and over my hip until he was cupping the full curve of my behind, part of me that he’d actively avoided touching all night.
Scratch that sleepy thing.
His firm hands clutched me closer and I breathed a heady gust of air at his throat. I’d been careful all night not to be too vocal about how good his touches felt. I knew each noise would act as fuel, making it even harder for him. He rolled to his back, pulling me on top of him with both hands fully on my backside now.
“Kaidan,” I whispered.
Looking half-asleep, he shushed me with a hot kiss, pulling my hips to crush us together. I whimpered into his mouth.
“God, those little sounds,” he said against my lips. “I want to hear how you sound when I make you—”
“Kai!” I practically leaped off him, and he sat up, eyes blazing, licking his lips. I was breathing hard. He had to be as tired as me after our long day, and it was starting to weaken us big-time. Oh, how I’d love to indulge that weakness.
I scooted farther away.
“Maybe we should try to get some sleep,” I suggested, though I was feeling wide-awake now.
He stared at me with roaring passion. “I think a third shower might be necessary,” he said.
A silly laugh wanted to escape me, but there was no humor in his eyes. Only want.

Book Review: Sweet Evil by Wendy Higgins

Sweet Evil (The Sweet Trilogy #1) by Wendy Higgins
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: May 1, 2012
Publisher: HarperTeen

Embrace the Forbidden

What if there were teens whose lives literally depended on being bad influences?

This is the reality for sons and daughters of fallen angels.
Tenderhearted Southern girl Anna Whitt was born with the sixth sense to see and feel emotions of other people. She's aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but it isn't until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He's the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Sweet Evil is the first book in the Sweet Trilogy by Wendy Higgins. This is only the first book, and I'm already completely smitten beyond words. This world is expertly built around its characters. Anna is a character who's immediately lovable. She's innocent but not totally naive. She's only growing wiser to the world as she learns there is way more to the world than she ever thought possible. Kaidan and other Nephilim have no choice but to do their father's bidding. They each have jobs they must fulfill to lead humans astray. This is not necessarily a life they all would have chosen for themselves, but Nephilim have no choice. When Anna and Kaidan meet, it is electric. As a reader, I couldn't tear my eyes away from the pages whenever Kai and Anna were together. The supporting characters were amazing as well. They don't fall to the way side like in so many other books. They are in the story for a reason. I have no doubt that Anna and Kai will somehow end up together(They just have to!), but I also have a feeling there's going to be a pretty intense love triangle thrown into this trilogy too. We'll see. Actually, that's a good word for this book as a whole: Intense. From the romance to the Dukes and everything in between. Sweet Evil has a crazy intensity that already has me drooling and swooning for more. I knew I'd like this book, but I had no idea how much I would love it! I'm so excited about this series!

“Wait,” Kaidan called from behind me. I squeezed my eyes shut for a second, but kept walking. Then I felt his hand around my
wrist, spinning me in a half circle and pulling me to his chest. His face was so close. He reached down and cupped my face with one
woolly hand, and wiped the top corner of my lip hard with his thumb. I flinched back.
“What are you doing?”
“I...” He appeared to have no idea himself. “I wanted to see your freckle.”
A vulnerable tenderness flashed across his face, more painful to see than the coldness. It took every ounce of strength I had not to
beg for one last kiss. As fast as his expression had softened, it was back to stone again.
“What do you want from me, Kai?”
“For starters?” His voice lowered to sexy, dangerous depths. “I want to introduce myself to every freckle on your body.”
A powerful shiver ripped through me.”
