Want to know more about Playing Catch Up? I'll tell you all about it here!

The Eternal Ones (Eternal Ones #1) by Kirsten Miller
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance/Mystery)
Date Published: August 24, 2010
Publisher: Razorbill

Haven Moore has always lived in the tiny town of Snope City, Tennessee. But for as long as she can remember, Haven has experienced visions of a past life as a girl named Constance, whose love for a boy called Ethan ended in a fiery tragedy.

One day, the sight of notorious playboy Iain Morrow on television brings Haven to her knees. Haven flees to New York City to find Iain and there, she is swept up in an epic love affair that feels both deeply fated and terribly dangerous. Is Iain her beloved Ethan? Or is he her murderer in a past life? Haven asks the members of the powerful and dangerous Ouroboros Society to help her unlock the mysteries of reincarnation and discover the secrets hidden in her past lives, and loves, before all is lost and the cycle begins again. But what is the Ouroboros Society? And how can Haven know who to trust?

The Eternal Ones is the first book in the Eternal Ones Series by Kirsten Miller. When it came to Ethan/Iain, Haven lost all common sense. One minute she was so in love. Iain does no wrong. Let's hop in the sack. The next minute, he did this. He did that. He's more horrible than horrible and then back in the sack again. She went back and forth so many times it became completely frustrating.

I enjoyed getting the flashbacks into the many lives and histories of the characters and their relationships with each other in all their lives. I thought this was going to be a paranormal romance, and it was, but it was more of a mystery than anything, and that was okay because the whole mystery of the Ouroboros Society and the histories of the people involved really carried the story more than the actual romance. In fact, I spent a good portion of the book not trusting the main love interest at all. Actually, I spent a good portion of the book not trusting any of the characters. I'm still not sure about some. Nope, I'm not telling you if any of them, including Iain, earned my trust or not as finding out was part of the fun.

Check out my review of the next book in this duology!

Like all writers, I live in Brooklyn. (I’m only half kidding—I see Martin Amis in the grocery store twice a week. I'm pretty sure he doesn't see me.) Sometimes I work in advertising. My eight-year-old daughter thinks this toothbrush commercial is my greatest accomplishment in life. (For the record, I didn’t direct, write or produce the spot. I’m only responsible for the strategy that inspired it. But seriously—you can’t go wrong with a Philips Sonicare.)

My teaser this week is from The Eternal Ones by Kirsten Miller

“All the most powerful emotions come from chaos -fear, anger, love- especially love. Love is chaos itself. Think about it! Love makes no sense. It shakes you up and spins you around. And then, eventually, it falls apart.”
