Book Review! The Faerie Games by Michelle Madow

The Faerie Games (Dark World: The Faerie Games #1) by Michelle Madow
Genre: Young Adult (Fantasy Romance)
Date Published:  August 30, 2019
Publisher: Dreamscape Publishing

I’m Selena Pearce, and in the past few days I’ve been kidnapped by faeries, gifted with powerful magic, and forced by the gods to compete in a twisted game to the death.

Growing up on the magical island of Avalon should be great... but I have no magic to speak of. And my parents forbid me from leaving.

So when I sneak out to Earth for a night and meet a hottie named Julian with ice blue eyes that leave me breathless, of course I say yes to a date with him. But when Julian pulls me through a magical portal, I realize he isn’t human. He’s a half-blood faerie sent to bring me to his realm of the Otherworld. Because apparently, I’m a half-blood faerie, too. And I’ve been chosen to compete in the annual Faerie Games—a brutal, gladiator-like competition where half-bloods fight to the death.

Too bad I can’t get my new magic under control. But with all eyes on me, I only have two options: Die in the Faerie Games, or win and earn my freedom.

Now the other players—including Julian, who still captivates me even though I should hate him—better watch out. Because I’m determined to get home.

And I’ll fight anyone blocking my path to get there.

Full of magic, mythology, adventure, and romance, The Faerie Games is the first book in an addicting young adult urban fantasy series by USA Today bestselling author Michelle Madow that will keep you reading late into the night!

The Faerie Games is the first book in the Dark World: The Faerie Games by Michelle Madow. This was like a fae version of the Hunger Games. I liked Selena from the start, and it was very easy to get pulled into her life. I liked how Roman Mythology was woven into the Faerie work. That was a unique spin on things. There was a bit of action and a hint of romance. I think we're in store for much more of each in the following books. Like all books by this author, the story completely swept me out of reality, and it was all over way before I wanted it to be. Fortunately for us, there are more books, and the Faerie Games are just beginning!

The Vampire War is the fifth and final book in The Vampire Wish series by Michelle Madow. Like this authors other books, this book and this series as a whole was a highly immersive reading experience. There's potential for more to be told along this storyline, and there's also supposed to be a prequel series, I believe. I'll have to look it up and see in that series is out yet or in the works. I've enjoyed Annika as a character quite a bit. Watching her transformation from the girl she was in book one to who she is now was a lot of fun to read. When there are so many books in a series, with so much going on, like this series has,(seriously, there's rarely a dull moment) it's always hard to review without saying too much. I don't want to give bits away. There are still a few things I wonder about, which may get covered in other books. I can see that happening. But know this... there will be twists and turns. There will also be things you see coming, but you will enjoy every minute of it!

Release Day Review! The Angel Trials by Michelle Madow

The Angel Trials (Dark World: The Angel Trials #1) by Michelle Madow
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: March 19, 2018
Publisher: Dreamscape Publishing

She thought magic didn’t exist. She was so, so wrong.

Raven Danvers is a typical college student… until she’s attacked by a demon on the night of her twenty-first birthday. Luckily, she’s saved by Noah—a mysterious, sexy wolf shifter who appears and disappears in the blink of an eye.

When Raven returns home, she discovers her mom has been abducted by the same demon who came after her. And who turns up at the scene of the crime again? Noah. He’s hunting the demons who are taking humans, and he’s ultimately heading to the place where Raven needs to go to save her mom—the mystical island of Avalon.

Now Raven’s tagging along on Noah’s demon hunting mission whether he wants her there or not. And he makes it no secret that his journey would be a lot easier without her dragging him down. But Raven isn’t going anywhere, so she and Noah will have to learn to work together—if they don’t kill each other first.

The Angel Trials is the first book in the Dark World: The Angel Trials series by Michelle Madow.
This story is told mostly from Raven's point of view, but you get bits from other character's perspectives as well from time to time. Raven is a fun character. She doesn't take herself too seriously, and she's devoted to her family, in this case her mom. She has a mystery to her, one she doesn't even know. I want to know it too!

Noah is more guarded and has mysteries of his own. You'll know some of his secrets if you've read The Vampire Wish series. You can understand and enjoy this book without reading it, but I highly recommend that series as well. Noah doesn't  let people in easily, and he's got a similar devotion to his cause as Raven does to finding her mom. Well... for different reasons of course. I was already a fan of Noah, before this book, and  now, I really like how Raven is making herself a part of the team.  Needless to say, I'm attached to the characters. There was lots going on that kept my attention, and the turn of events towards the end has me counting down the days until the next book. It wasn't really a cliff hanger, but it sure makes me want to know what happens next.

I love that this series takes place in the same "Dark World" as the Vampire Wish series. That series was fantastic, and if this first book is anything to go by, it will be too.

Book Reviews! The Vampire Trick & The Vampire Fate by Michelle Madow

The Vampire Trick (Dark World: The Vampire Wish #3) by Michelle Madow
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance/Fairy Tale Retelling)
Date Published: September 7, 2017
Publisher: Dreamscape Publishing

In a kingdom full of secrets, no one can be trusted.

Annika’s life was flipped upside down when she was kidnapped by vampires to become a blood slave in their hidden kingdom of the Vale. Now, the powerful witch Geneva has disguised her as a vampire princess, and Annika’s living in the palace to compete for Prince Jacen’s hand in marriage. But her quest to become his bride is just a facade. Her real goal? Kill the vampire queen Laila so the kingdom crumbles and she can set the human blood slaves free.

When rebellious wolves attack the town, they leave a trail of vampire corpses in their wake, declaring war upon the Vale. But the wolves didn’t act alone. Someone on the inside is helping them, making everyone a suspect. And one major player won’t make it out alive.

The Vampire Trick is the third book in the Vampire Wish series by Michelle Madow. Just when you think things might be looking up, and Jasen and Annika would catch a break... bam. Nope. Not today. There were twists, turns, and all out craziness! Especially in the last few chapters. I saw some things  coming, but not everything. This series sure keeps you on your toes.

The Vampire Fate (Dark World: The Vampire Wish #4) by Michelle Madow
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance/Fairy Tale Retelling)
Date Published: October 5, 2017
Publisher: Dreamscape Publishing

The vampire queen is dead.

Annika shouldn’t have been able to kill the vampire queen Laila—such a task can only be done by the Nephilim, whose race is extinct. But somehow, she did kill the queen. Now she’s the number one target on multiple hit lists, and she’s only alive because she’s a fugitive at the neutral kingdom of the Haven.

As if that weren’t enough to deal with, the world is in danger and she’s the one prophesied to save it. But she doesn’t have to do it alone. When fate brings her and Prince Jacen together again, they team up on a quest to find the only object that can save the world as they know it—the Holy Grail itself.

The adventure continues in the fourth book of The Vampire Wish series, and get ready to brace yourselves, because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

The Vampire Fate is the fourth book in the Vampire Wish series by Michelle Madow. There was a lot to this book and not just the action, which there was a lot of that too. But the characters.. We got to know them better and learned more about them too. I can feel for almost all of them in a way. Even the, well, I don't want to call them the bad guys, but the not so great ones? I can see why they are the way they are. Some I even care for a little bit now. There's depth to the character and world building of this series, and it gets better and more involved with each book. I almost thought this book was going to start wrapping things up, but when one thing seemed to be taken care of, a few more things popped up in its place. I've read several of this authors books, and I think this is my favorite series by her so far.
