Book Review: Near the Bone by Christina Henry

Near the Bone by Christina Henry

Date Published: April 13, 2021
Publisher: Berkley Books

A woman trapped on a mountain attempts to survive more than one kind of monster, in a dread-inducing horror novel from the national bestselling author Christina Henry.

Mattie can't remember a time before she and William lived alone on a mountain together. She must never make him upset. But when Mattie discovers the mutilated body of a fox in the woods, she realizes that they're not alone after all.

There's something in the woods that wasn't there before, something that makes strange cries in the night, something with sharp teeth and claws.

When three strangers appear on the mountaintop looking for the creature in the woods, Mattie knows their presence will anger William. Terrible things happen when William is angry.

Near the Bone by Christina Henry was an interesting story. I enjoyed getting to know Mattie. Her life has literally been torture since she was a small child. The beginning was on its way to somewhere good. You got a clear picture of how her relationship with William 'functioned'. You got bits of her history in her flashbacks. Plus, the supernatural aspect added even more terror to her situation. Then there was the end, which was okay in itself, except you have now finished this book and have absolutely no answers about anything. ANYTHING! I have so many questions! This is not the kind of book that needs a sequel, but answers needed to be provided to so many things within this story line. It's frustrating.
