Book Review: Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers #1) by Lisa Kleypas
Genre: Adult Fiction (Historical Romance)
Date Published: October 26, 2004
Publisher: Avon

Four young ladies at the side of the ballroom make a pact to help each other find husbands . . . no matter what it takes.

Proud and beautiful Annabelle Peyton could have her pick of suitors—if only she had a dowry. Her family is on the brink of disaster, and the only way Annabelle can save them is to marry a wealthy man. Unfortunately her most persistent admirer is the brash Simon Hunt, a handsome and ambitious entrepreneur who wants her as his mistress.

Annabelle is determined to resist Simon's wicked propositions, but she can't deny her attraction to the boldly seductive rogue, any more than he can resist the challenge she presents. As they try to outmaneuver each other, they find themselves surrendering to a love more powerful than they could have ever imagined. But fate may have other plans—and it will take all of Annabelle's courage to face a peril that could destroy everything she holds dear.

Secrets of a Summer Night is the first book in the Wallflowers series by Lisa Kleypas. This is an older series, but I love her books, so I’m going to catch up on previously missed ones. This is a fun group of ladies. They are a mix of American and British, and together they are highly entertaining. They’re all on the hunt for husbands, and they’ve all vowed to help each get said husbands. This is Annabelle’s story first. I love her interactions with Simon. It’s like he eggs her on on purpose. She takes the bait every time. It’s pretty funny. There are serious moments as well. There’s whole ikky situation with her mother that is about to involve her. So, there’s a pleasant mix of silly and serious that kept me hooked, and as always with this author’s stories, I get thoroughly attached to her characters!--
