Book Review: Invaded by Melissa Landers

Invaded (Alienated #2) by Melissa Landers
Genre: Young Adult (Science Fiction/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: February 3, 2015
Publisher: Disney Hyperion

The romantic sequel to Alienated takes long-distance relationships to a new level as Cara and Aelyx long for each other from opposite ends of the universe...until a threat to both their worlds reunites them.

Cara always knew life on planet L’eihr would be an adjustment. With Aelyx, her L’eihr boyfriend, back on Earth, working to mend the broken alliance between their two planets, Cara is left to fend for herself at a new school, surrounded by hostile alien clones. Even the weird dorm pet hates her.

Things look up when Cara is appointed as human representative to a panel preparing for a human colony on L’eihr. A society melding their two cultures is a place where Cara and Aelyx could one day make a life together. But with L’eihr leaders balking at granting even the most basic freedoms, Cara begins to wonder if she could ever be happy on this planet, even with Aelyx by her side.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Aelyx, finds himself thrown into a full-scale PR campaign to improve human-L’eihr relations. Humans don’t know that their very survival depends on this alliance: only Aelyx’s people have the technology to fix the deadly contamination in the global water supply that human governments are hiding. Yet despite their upper hand, the leaders of his world suddenly seem desperate to get humans on their side, and hardly bat an eye at extremists’ multiple attempts on Aelyx’s life.

The Way clearly needs humans’ help . . . but with what? And what will they ask for in return?

Invaded is the second book in the Alienated series by Melissa Landers. Well, this book did what I was afraid of. The two main characters were separated through most of the book. I'm not sure why so many second books do that, but in this case, it still kept me engaged in the going ons from each perspective. This time around, we learned a little more about  L’eihr. They have a different way of doing things, from their politics to their day to day lifestyle, and the more Cara learns the less sure she is about making a life in the colony. Aelyx is having a rough time on earth between the prejudices against him and all the attempts on his life. We get to meet some new characters, and get to know some of the older ones a little better. There was a twist or two. Some things I expected, but I think that was the author's plan. This book could have almost wrapped up the story as a whole, but there are a few more things left unfinished, plus there are still some threats out there, so I'm glad there will be a third book after all. I'd heard that was up in the air for a bit.

Don't forget to check out my review of the other books in this trilogy!

  1. I loved this book! I think it's even better than the first one "Alienated ". I started reading and couldn't put it down. I hope there is another book staring the characters detailing their new life on their new planet. I think there could be many stories of these characters to tell.
    Loved it.
