Book Review! The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping (Hazards #1) by Alyssa Rose Ivy
Genre: New Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Published: May 17, 2013
Publisher: Self

This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.

The Hazards of Skinny Dipping is the first book in the Hazards series by Alyssa Rose Ivy. Yes! I'm finally reading the first book. I don't know how I got started reading this series out of order, but that's okay, they each stand alone just fine. This was Juliet's story. Juliet must be a looker. She pretty much has her pick of guys. .Dylan, Kyle, Reed. Of course she  doesn't see it that way, and her self insecurities mixed with high expectations cause her to get involved with a  complete jerk. Needless to say, Juliet's romance wasn't an easy one, but once she got her man, it was a sweet one.

Prologue

Skinny dipping was the last thing on my list. Of the five items, it was the hardest one for me. It wasn’t a bucket list or anything like that—I wasn’t thinking about death. It was a things-to-do-before-college list my cousin, Amy, made for me.

Now, I know what you’re thinking. This is going to be one of those stories about the death of a loved one spurring a girl down a path of self-discovery. It’s not. My cousin is alive and well, and at the time of this story was in Malawi with the Peace Corps. The list was her way of preparing me for the wilds of college (her words, not mine). Amy was under the impression that I was entirely unprepared for the life of a coed.

I still remember her exact words. We were hanging out in her room at her parents’ house while she packed. “Juliet, sweetheart, you know I love you, right?”

I glanced at her apprehensively. “Yeah…”

“So know that, when I say this, it’s out of love.” She tossed a huge pile of t-shirts into her large black duffel.

I tensed. “Should I be scared?”

“No.” She smiled her million-dollar, brings-guys-to-their-knees smile, and I knew I should actually be terrified.

“Okay.” I clasped my hands together, refusing to look at my chipped nail polish.

She flipped long, dark hair off her shoulder. “I’m worried about you.”

“Worried?”

“I don’t want you to totally drown next year.” She shoved a small, pink envelope into my hand. “Here, don’t open this until after graduation.”

“But you won’t be here. You leave tomorrow.”

She gave me her signature ‘duh’ look. “I’m well aware. Just open it, and do exactly what it says.”

“This kind of feels like the beginning of a YA novel.”

She laughed. “No. Trust me. The contents of this letter are not YA appropriate.”

My stomach dropped. What was Amy getting me into?

I brought the envelope home and stared at it about four times a day for the next two weeks. Obviously, I could have just opened it, but I’m usually kind of a rules person. Each time I started to tear open the envelope, I chickened out. I kept picturing Amy’s perfectly made up face yelling at me. I know that description doesn’t quite fit with a girl who joined the Peace Corps, but if you knew Amy, you’d understand. She was just Miss Perfect. It wasn’t until I got home from a graduation party at a friend’s house that I finally opened it. As I unfolded the pale pink paper, a Georgia driver’s license saying I was twenty-two fell into my lap. I set aside the fake ID and read the note.

Juliet’s Must-Do Before College List

Get drunk (and no, a buzz from sugary drinks does not qualify as drunk).

Go to a bar. Any bar will do, but you need to at least know what they look like inside.

Wear something you know would give your father a heart attack if he saw it.

Kiss a random guy, and don’t let it go further.

Go skinny dipping.

I’m sure you expect me to detail how I crossed the first four items off my list, but this story isn’t about the first four. It’s about what happened when I did number five.

Book Review! Man Up Party Boy by Danielle Sibarium

Man Up Party Boy by Danielle Sibarium
Genre: New Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: May 2015
Publisher: Self

Noah York is looking forward to the beach vacation he’s been planning with his best friend, Cooper. He has visions of relaxing days on the sand and fun nights with the girls. However, all his plans come crashing down when Cooper abandons him for a trip to Italy. Not wanting to leave his friend in a lurch Cooper arranges for his sister to take his place. Noah hasn’t seen Lexi in years and isn’t looking forward to spending a week with her or her attitude.

Lexi can’t stand party boy Noah. At least, that’s what she thinks. But when she sees him talking to a blonde at the bar on their first night in the beach town, jealousy takes over and she interrupts them with a kiss. One kiss leads to another. Before either of them realizes what’s happening passion and desire are awakened between them, but Lexi knows better than to fall for Noah. He is, after all, just a party boy.

Man Up Party Boy by Danielle Sibarium is a quick and steamy love story that makes for a perfect summer read. Lexi doesn't have much in the way of a self esteem. Noah is known as the ladies' man. Neither of them know much about the other. What they do know is most likely lies. The characters were addictive and fun. I really liked their attitudes. Like all of Danielle Sibarium ' characters these felt real with their histories and baggage. The romance is never easy, but I love, love, love reading it.

The ARC of Man Up Party Boy by Danielle Sibarium was kindly provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

Danielle Sibarium grew up as an only child of divorced parents in Brooklyn, New York. Her imagination was developed at an early age. Surrounded by stuffed animals and imaginary friends, she transported herself into a fantasy world full of magic and wonder. Books were the gateway between her play world and reality. On any given summer afternoon she became Snow White sweeping and cooking for the dwarfs, or Cinderella waiting for the prince.

Danielle always loved dialogue and in elementary school began writing plays and short stories. This is when she began to understand she could not only bring her fantastical world to life for herself, but she could enchant others as well. And so she wrote. She wrote and wrote and wrote.

Sadly the first piece she ever sent out for publication of any sort was a letter to the editor of The Home News Tribune. It was a piece thanking the first responders for their bravery and selflessness on Sept 11th. It was chosen as letter of the week.

In 2007 Danielle collaborated with Charlotte Doreen Small to write songs for her CD More. Danielle wrote the lyrics for Take My Hand, and Goodbye, while Charlotte contributed the melody.
In October 2011 Danielle’s debut novel For Always was released. She Has since released Heart Waves and the second book in the Heart Waves series, Breaking Waves.

Danielle graduated from Farleigh Dickinson University with honors, and currently lives in New Jersey with her husband and three children. Check out my interview with Danielle!

Book Review: Torrent by Lisa Tawn Bergren

Torrent (River of Time #3) by Lisa Tawn Bergren
Genre: Young Adult (Historical Fiction/Fantasy/Romance)
Date Published: September 1, 2011
Publisher: David C. Cook

When Gabi and Lia finally learn to surf the river of time, they realize they must make hard choices about life and love in the third and final book in the River of Time series.

Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times.

But love calls across the centuries, and the girls are determined to return forever—even though they know the Black Plague is advancing across Europe, claiming the lives of one-third of the population. In the suspenseful conclusion of the River of Time series, every decision is about life … and death.

Torrent is the third and final book in the River of Time series. Like the previous two books, there was lots of action and adventure. There is seriously never a dull moment. I love watching how far along Gabi and Lia have come. They have truly embraced life in this time period and had major character growth when you compare them in this book to the first book. I never thought I'd say this, but Marcello has some competition this time around. What?? It's true. I still have a lingering question from book two that carried over though. Remember the big thing they went back in time to change in the last book? Did that not change their future at all?? Did their past selves not get a little..umm.. confused(I'm not sure if that's the right word, but it's the only thing that comes too mind)? I mean, I can see things happening the way they did all the same, but now they'd have this big unexplained thing. You know? If you haven't read the last book yet, you probably have no idea what I'm talking about. Sorry about that. Actually, no, I'm not sorry. You need to go read these books. *wink*

As a side note.. I don't know if I'm totally Team Greco yet, but it wouldn't take much, He definitely grew on me unexpectedly.

Tour! A Review of The Day Of The Wave by Becky Wicks

The Day Of The Wave by Becky Wicks
Genre:
Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: May 1, 2015
Publisher: Self

Isla and Ben were just sixteen when the Boxing Day tsunami tore through their beach resort in Thailand. Just days after forming a life-changing bond, both were missing and presumed dead. Unbeknown to each other and haunted by one of the biggest natural disasters in world history, Isla and Ben are living very different lives, until over a decade later when a chance encounter throws them back together.

Based on real life events, The Day of the Wave is a story of healing, learning to let go, and figuring out when to hold on with everything you have left.

The Day of the Wave by Becky Wicks is a story about surviving and learning to live again. Isla and Ben have survived something most people don't even come close to experiencing. Neither of them have coped with being the ones who survived. Heck, neither of them even knew the other had lived. It was emotional reading bits of their back stories and experiences through out the book. We get to see how they met, what happened on that day, and what's gone on since. They both emotionally punish and/or blame themselves. Once they meet again, they begin to heal, but do they feel like they deserve to move on? This is one of those stories that just makes you think, because even though these particular people are fictitious, the tsunami happened. It ruined, ended, and changed lives forever. It's an emotional story..

The ARC of The Day Of The Wave by Becky Wicks was kindly provided to me by Xpresso Book Tours for review. The opinions are my own.
