Tour! A Review of Fragile Line by Brooklyn Skye

Fragile Line by Brooklyn Skye
Genre: Young Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: April 21, 2014
Publisher: Entangled Teen

It can happen in a flash. One minute she’s kissing her boyfriend, the next she’s lost in the woods. Sixteen-year-old Ellie Cox is losing time. It started out small…forgetting a drive home or a conversation with a friend. But her blackouts are getting worse, more difficult to disguise as forgetfulness. When Ellie goes missing for three days, waking up in the apartment of a mysterious guy—a guy who is definitely not her boyfriend, her life starts to spiral out of control.

Perched on the edge of insanity, with horrific memories of her childhood leaking in, Ellie struggles to put together the pieces of what she’s lost—starting with the name haunting her, Gwen. Heartbreakingly beautiful, this poignant story follows one girl’s harrowing journey to finding out who she really is.

Fragile Line by Brooklyn Skye is a different kind of contemporary fiction. I figured out pretty early on what was going on with Ellie, but I studied this condition quite a bit in school. The thing that bothered me most is that she didn't tell anyone about her blackouts. Who would wake up with tattoos they don't remember getting or wake up in the woods with no memory of how they got there and not tell anyone? Who wouldn't try to get help? She had so many opportunities to tell a parent or friends and never did. It just didn't make sense to me. It especially didn't match anything else about Ellie's personality. By all means, you'd expect her to run for help after her first or second blackout. I didn't expect to, but I liked Griffin a lot and probably felt more for him than any of the other characters in this book. Shane was okay, but he always put his best friend before Ellie among other things. Yeah, we all need friend time, but he didn't seem to care in the beginning. I'll admit, he's really there for her towards the end, but at that point I was already so disenchanted by him it didn't make a difference for me. Griffin clearly has some issues too, but he seems more devoted. I liked him.

Between Ellie and Gwen, there was always something going on. It didn't lose my attention for a second. Fragile Line is a perfect name to describe this story. It was a fast paced read that offers a little something different than many Young Adult books out there right now.

Fragile Line by Brooklyn Skye was kindly provided to me by the YA Bound for review. The opinions are my own.

Brooklyn Skye grew up in a small town where she quickly realized writing was an escape from small town life. Really, she's just your average awkward girl who's obsessed with words. She writes young adult and new adult fiction.
