Book Review: Possession by Elana Johnson

Possession (Possession #1) by Elana Johnson
Genre: Young Adult (Dystopian/Science Fiction Romance)
Date Published: June 7, 2011
Publisher: Simon & Schuster

Vi knows the Rule: Girls don't walk with boys, and they never even think about kissing them. But no one makes Vi want to break the Rules more than Zenn...and since the Thinkers have chosen him as Vi's future match, how much trouble can one kiss cause? The Thinkers may have brainwashed the rest of the population, but Vi is determined to think for herself.

But the Thinkers are unusually persuasive, and they're set on convincing Vi to become one of them...starting by brainwashing Zenn. Vi can't leave Zenn in the Thinkers' hands, but she's wary of joining the rebellion, especially since that means teaming up with Jag. Jag is egotistical, charismatic, and dangerous--everything Zenn's not. Vi can't quite trust Jag and can't quite resist him, but she also can't give up on Zenn.

This is a game of control or be controlled. And Vi has no choice but to play.

Possession is the first book in the Possession Series by Elana Johnson. After being disappointed by a few dystopian stories lately, this was a much needed read for me. It hooked me pretty quick. There were moments where I got a little confused, but I think I pieced most things together by the end. I still have some lingering questions though, but I don't think we're supposed to have all the answers just yet. I immediately liked Violet. Her personality and sarcasm, add to her no nonsense attitude as she takes on life. There is a love triangle and I don't know which one to trust(if any). I have a clear favorite in Jag, but there are some major trust issues I have with both guys. Zenn looks pretty bad to me right now, but I'm not sure how much is in his control. I'm actually not really sure how much control anyone really has. So, Zenn has the potential to grow on me depending on how some things pan out. I still think I like Jag better though. *wink* I really don't know who to trust when it comes to the characters as a whole. No one is completely forthcoming to Vi. They all seem to have their own agenda. Everyone has lied to her, and/or is hiding information from her. I think there is still much she hasn't learned. I'm looking forward to finding out more of this information in upcoming books.
