Book Review: Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick
Genre: Young Adult (Contemporary/Suspense/Thriller)
Date Published: October 7, 2014
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Danger is hard to resist in this sexy thriller from Becca Fitzpatrick, the New York Times bestselling author of the Hush, Hush saga.

Brit Pheiffer has trained to backpack the Teton Range, but she isn't prepared when her ex-boyfriend, who still haunts her every thought, wants to join her. Before Britt can explore her feelings for Calvin, an unexpected blizzard forces her to seek shelter in a remote cabin, accepting the hospitality of its two very handsome occupants;but these men are fugitives, and they take her hostage.

Britt is forced to guide the men off the mountain, and knows she must stay alive long enough for Calvin to find her. The task is made even more complicated when Britt finds chilling evidence of a series of murders that have taken place there and in uncovering this, she may become the killer's next target.

But nothing is as it seems, and everyone is keeping secrets, including Mason, one of her kidnappers. His kindness is confusing Britt. Is he an enemy? Or an ally?

Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick was full of suspense and action. I figured out who was bad pretty early on, but the story was told so well that it didn't put a damper on my enjoyment of the story one bit. The characters are in the mountains, in a remote area, in the middle of a snowstorm. So, they have many challenges to survive, not to mention each other. There was a bit of romance thrown in the mix to amp it up, I'm not sure why I waited so long to read this. It definitely didn't disappoint. Just like Hush, Hush, Becca Fitzpatrick knows how to tell an addictive and engaging story that doesn't let you put it down.

Book Review: Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick

Finale (Hush, Hush #4) by Becca Fitzpatrick
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)
Date Published: October 23, 2012
Publisher: Simon & Schuster Books for Young Readers

Will love conquer all?

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest. But in Hank's absence, Nora has become the unwitting head of the Nephilim and must finish what Hank began. Which ultimately means destroying the fallen angels - destroying Patch.

Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.

As the battle lines are drawn, Nora and Patch must confront the differences that have always been between them and either choose to ignore them or let them destroy the love they have always fought for.

Finale is the fourth and final book in the Hush, Hush Saga by Becca Fitzpatrick. This one had some twists and surprises, that's for sure. Some I saw coming, but not all. Nora is figuring her way as the new Nephilim leader. I think she handles things quite well considering. And Patch?

“You dress to impress," I said approvingly.
"No, Angel." He leaned in, his teeth softly grazing my ear. "I undress to impress.”

Need I say more?

I enjoyed some of the supporting characters more in this book too. For example, Vee never fully grew on me until this book. Now, I can't see the series without her. This one had some twists and surprises, that's for sure. Some I saw coming, but not all. Finale was full of drama complete with giggles and tears. I'm sad to see the ending to this saga, but I'm very happy with the resolutions. We got our questions answered, and everything was tied up nicely.

“Did you know, the first time I saw you, I thought: I’ve never seen anything more captivating and beautiful?”

“Why are you telling me this?” I said miserably.

“I saw you, and I wanted to be close to you. I wanted you to let me in. I wanted to know you in a way no one else did. I wanted you, all of you. That wanting nearly drove me mad.” Patch paused, inhaling softly, as though breathing me in. “And now that I have you, the only thing that terrifies me is having to go back to that place. Having to want you all over again, with no hope of my desire ever being fulfilled. You’re mine, Angel. Every last piece of you. I won’t let anything change that.”

Let's Talk: Who Are Your Top Literary Crushes, and Why?

Let's Talk is a fun new weekly meme, hosted by i swim for oceans, in which we discuss anything and everything about books!

This week, i swim for oceans wants to know:

Who Are Your Top Literary Crushes, and Why?
My literary crushes change frequently depending on what I'm reading at the time, but these guys are my current list toppers. (in no particular order)

5. Patch Cipriano from The Hush Hush Series
4. Jace Wayland from The Mortal Instruments Series
3. Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries Series
2. Four from The Divergent Trilogy
1. Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games Trilogy

So, why do these guys make my list? They all have attitude! They're sarcastic, sexy, a touch dangerous (some more than others), and they're plain and simply a lot of fun. Not to mention they all have that irresistible bad boy thing going on too. Well... not Peeta. Peeta isn't so much of a bad boy, but his heart, charm, and selflessness puts him in a class all his own.

What about you? Who are your top literary crushes??

Book Review: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick

The Blurb:
The noise between Patch and Nora is gone. They've overcome the secrets riddled in Patch's dark past...bridged two irreconcilable worlds...faced heart-wrenching tests of betrayal, loyalty and trust...and all for a love that will transcend the boundary between heaven and earth. Armed with nothing but their absolute faith in one another, Patch and Nora enter a desperate fight to stop a villain who holds the power to shatter everything they've worked for—and their love—forever.

My Review:
Silence is the third book in the Hush, Hush series. I enjoyed this book more than the previous two so far. You didn't see too much of Patch in the beginning and that made it drag a little for me, but that all changed once Patch stayed on the scene more and more. I love his attitude. He's the perfect bad boy. I liked Nora's character even more in this book too. Even though her memory is basically wiped clean, she didn't let it hold her back. I feel like she grew more as a character in this book. Silence gives you more information and brings some of the pieces from the last two books together. It was hard to put down, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommend it. It is well worth the read! Don't forget to check out my reviews of the first two books in this series: Hush, Hush and Crescendo

Book Review: Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick

Genre: Young Adult Fiction (Fantasy/Paranormal Romance)

The Blurb:
Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.

Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.

Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperately searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts

My Review:
I didn't enjoy Crescendo as much as Hush, Hush, but I still liked it. Some parts more than others. The characters bring out some negative emotions throughout the book. Patch made me angry and frustrated, and there were times when I wanted to slap Nora around a bit, but there were also twists when it came to some of the other characters to keep things interesting. I felt like the beginning dragged somewhat. This was the classic sequel, but the last quarter of the book made it well worth the read and really got me anxious to know what happens next. I'm looking forward to reading Silence.

Throwback Thursday: Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick

Throwback Thursday is a weekly feature co-hosted by Never Too Fond of Books and The Housework Can Wait. This is a fun way to write about and review beloved books we haven't read in a while. I'm using is as an opportunity to go back and review books that I read before I started actually reviewing books. Time to play a little catch up!

Genre: Young Adult Fiction (Fantasy/Paranormal Romance)

Blurb:
For Nora Grey, romance was not part of the plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how much her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her...until Patch comes along.

With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Nora is drawn to him against her better judgment, but after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is, and to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is far more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For Nora is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost her life.
My Review:
Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick is the first book in the Hush, Hush Series. This book has so many things I love to have in the books I read. I'm already an Angel/Fallen angel fan. I just can't get enough of them and the mystery that surrounds them. Which leads me to the next thing I love to have in books: The handsome, mysterious bad boy. Patch is the epitome of dark and mysterious. I enjoyed the intense relationship that formed between Patch and Nora. It was full of the anticipation factor which draws me right into a book. I've seen many reviews compare the book to Twilight, and I can definitely see similarities too, but I don't feel like it took away from the story. Lastly, I loved the cover. As I've said before, I'm a sucker for a pretty cover. The cover of Hush, Hush is lovely and a perfect fit for the book. Hush, Hush was one of those books that wouldn't let me put it down.
