Book Review: The Fallen Star by Jessica Sorensen

The Fallen Star (The Fallen Star #1) by Jessica Sorensen
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: April 11, 2011

The Blurb:
For eighteen year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. Up until recently, she has been incapable of feeling emotion. And when she's around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life. But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma's life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn't be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

My Review:
The Fallen Star is the first book in The Fallen Star series by Jessica Sorensen. This was a fun book to read. It has a paranormal aspect that I've never read in a book before. I really liked that originality. There are a few of the trusty stand by paranormals thrown in too. Gemma still has a lot of growing to do as a character, but she's only just gotten her emotions back, so even though she's a tad immature and lacking in some smarts(and yes at times I really wanted to slap her), I can understand why the author made her that way. I hope to see her mature as the series progresses. Alex has some growing of his own to do too for entirely different reasons. So yes, both characters have some major faults. This was frustrating at times, but it also made them human. I enjoyed Laylen's character the most. He's interesting and I'd like to learn more about him. I think he has it more together than any of the other characters within the story. He seems to anyway. There was a lot of predictability within the story. You'll probably figure some things out long before the main characters do, but there were a couple things that surprised me, especially regarding Alex. Some readers have compared this story to Twilight, and I can see that in the beginning, but I think it grows into its own very nicely. With that being said, I think Twilight fans will eat this book up. I know, I really enjoyed it. I finished it super fast, because I simply couldn't stop reading. I'm pretty excited about this series, and look forward to reading more! The Fallen Star is FREE on Amazon right now too!

Jessica Sorenson has written a New Adult version of this book as well called, Shattered Promises. Review coming soon! It's free on Amazon right now too!
