Tour! A Review of The Pirate Princess by Kary Rader. Plus a Guest Post From the Author!

The Pirate Princess (Reign of Light) by Kary Rader
Genre: New Adult/Adult Fiction (Historical/Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: May 27, 2014
Publisher: Boroughs Publishing Group

To gain her freedom, Charlee must seduce the prince. To save the pirate, Prince Petra must win her heart.

BY HONOR ALONE
A handsome war hero, Prince Petra can have his pick of any lady in the kingdom. A man of virtue, he's saved himself for just the right one. But when the corrupt emperor of Isa Vis kidnaps a duke's daughter to force her into an alliance, Petra sacrifices himself—and his dreams of love—to save her. Betrothing himself to the distant captive, he leads a daring rescue across the stormy South Sea.

But The Light has other plans. On the voyage, Petra runs afoul of Charlee. Once a prisoner, now a pirate captain, the sultry siren holds him captive with more than just her sword. And when she offers a seductive wager—if he takes her body before they reach the City of Light, she wins absolution for her crimes—it is all he can do to hold firm. While he has every reason to bring Charlee to justice, he’s also finally found a woman he wants more than honor. And he can no more trust her than he can trust himself.

The Pirate Princess is the second Reign of Light novel by Kary Rader. It was a quick little read about first loves under some very odd circumstances. It was these circumstances that kept the story different and entertaining. Charlee is a spitfire. She's seemingly in control of things. Petra is a man on a mission, but his mission gets a little side tracked to say the least. There were some parts that seemed a little slower than others, while the ending came so fast I had to re-read a part to make sure I didn't miss something. That felt a little awkward and rushed to me, but the story over all was enjoyable. I enjoyed how the roles of the main characters were reversed compared to some other stories out there. We not only have a female pirate who doesn't think she needs a man to save her when she can save herself, but we have a man who becomes her hostage.... in more ways then one. They can save each other, but will they??

This was another book that I didn't know was part of a series until I started writing the review. It seemed to stand alone just fine to me, and now I'm curious about the other books in this series.

The ARC of The Pirate Princess by Kary Rader was kindly provided to me by Bewitching Book Tours for review. The opinions are my own.

How Far is Too Far – Unredeemable Characters

By Kary Rader

In my current release from Boroughs Publishing Group, The Pirate Princess, the heroine Charlee endures a violent beginning. In fact, she murders her pirate captor during sex to which she has not consented.

I hate reading about rape, and, honestly, I didn’t like writing it either. But to show the extent of
emotional damage to Charlee, my female Pirate, I felt like the reader needed to see where she was coming from. Charlee isn’t always a likeable character. She’s a pirate, a thief, a murder, but I wanted to take her from a place where it seems there is no return and lead her to forgiveness and redemption. If I’ve done my job right, the reader will take that journey with her through her loss, doubts and fears and, in the end, come to her Happily Ever After.

I did that because in real life that’s what I believe. I don’t think, as human beings, we can ever fall far enough that there is no road back. No one is unredeemable. As long as there is breath, there is an opportunity to make your life and yourself what you long to be. No matter your past, it’s the choices you make right now that determine who you are.

There is today. Who do you want to be? What do you want to accomplish?

Kary Rader is a stay-at-home mother of three, avid reader and slave to the characters and worlds inside her head.

Always creative, she’s drawn to stories with fantastical worlds and creatures. With a little bit of magic and divine guidance, there isn’t anything that can’t be accomplished. And it’s the power of words that creates and destroys.

Vanquishing evil and injustice while finding eternal love in the process is all in a day’s work. And with the help of her critique partners and master cartographer imaginary places come to life.

Let the fantasy begin…
