Book Review: As You Turn Away by Molli Moran

As You Turn Away (The Walker Boys #1) by Molli Moran
Genre: New Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: February 26, 2014
Publisher: Self

Two hearts, one life-changing summer, and a long-awaited second chance...

When Quinnlan Reynolds left home at 18, she escaped her small, Georgia town and her suffocating upbringing. She started a new life as a ballerina, and tasted freedom for the first time. But four years later, her first visit home turns tragic. Reeling, Quinn tries to piece her life back together again. But doing so is easier said than done when sexy Jonah Walker saunters back into her life.

Quinn shattered Jonah’s heart once, so getting involved with her isn’t something he’s sure he’s ready to do again. He became someone he didn’t recognize when he left home. He’s spent the last years burying his pain by keeping everyone in his life at arm’s length. Now he needs to get to know his family again, and finally become who he wants to be.

But neither Quinn or Jonah can stay away from each other, especially when old feelings resurface. Something is pulling them back together, and they can’t deny their chemistry for long. One Georgia summer could change both their lives forever, if they can work through their past to have a future together.

* This book is considered New Adult due to age range and subject matter.

As You Turn Away is the first book in The Walker Boys Series by Molli Moran. When I first heard that fellow book blogger and Tennessee gal, Molli Moran, had a book out there, I knew it was one I had to read. Let me first start by saying, I love the Walker Boys! I can already tell this is going to be a fun series because of them! Quinn and Jonah have hurt each other pretty bad. So, when they both find themselves back in town they try to avoid each other. It's a small town, so they can't avoid each other forever. They have some pretty serious chemistry going on so it's pretty hard for them so stay away from each other once they do meet again, but they have a lot to work through. They have not only hurt each other, but those around them too. That's what this story is about though. As You Turn Away is a heartwarming story of new beginnings and forgiveness. I could really feel how much heart the author put into this book, and I'm anxious for more. Bring on those Walker Boys!

I’m a Southern girl born and raised in Tennessee.  I’ve done some traveling, and want to see more places both in the US and outside of it.  Some days I love the small town I live in, but other days, I’d do anything for a Starbucks or to be able to grab a taxi, or go to a great art museum.  But I have lots of friends and family here, so it’s home for now.

I have a lot of interests, including shopping, working out, cooking/baking, and hanging out with friends.  I read voraciously and I blog at Books and Whimsy.  I work part-time in a retail job, where I spend too much time people-watching and daydreaming about when I can work on my next chapter or start a new WIP.  For years I wrote with friends in online role-plays based on books by V.C. Andrews.  Once I transitioned away from that, I slowly started writing my own, original characters with a writing partner.  Then in 2012 a great deal about my world changed, and I began working seriously on a book-shaped thing.  I’m now working on a companion novel, and I have enough story ideas in my head to last a lifetime.

Growing up, I was surrounded not just by books, but by people in my life who taught me how to tell a true story – how to spin a yarn.  I took all that to heart, and have tried to put as much feeling and meaning into my books as I can.  I love getting lost in my characters and learning their secrets, ambitions, and watching them fall in love.

Other things I love…
  • I adore Doctor Who, Sherlock, Supernatural, Once Upon a Time, and The Vampire Diaries.  Team Stefan forever.
  • I’m happiest surrounded by my kitties, or spending time with my girlfriend, or family.
  • I like knee socks, scarves, purses, and bling-y jewelry.
  • Anna from ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS is my literary soul mate.  I make her look smooth.
  • I listen to everything from Justin Timberlake, Paramore, Birdy, and Chris Young, to The Civil Wars, Sam Smith, Banks, and Jason Aldean.
  • Rascal Flatts = my all time favorite group.  I’ve seen them in concert three times (one glorious time from row 14.) It’s been said that I can’t create a playlist without having one RF song on it, and that’s generally true.
  • I make music playlists for each of my WIPs, and for friends anytime I see an opportunity.
  • I love sleeping in when I can, or just being lazy in bed with hot tea and a good book.
  • I’m VERY friendly, and love hearing from readers, so follow me, or send me an email!.
