Five Blog Tour: An Interview With Christie L. Rich

Thank you for visiting with us on our stop along the Five Blog Tour!! We are thrilled to have Christie L. Rich with us here today! If you haven't read Five yet, I highly suggest you do so and check out my review while you're at it!

authorHow long have you been writing?
That’s a trick question, and I bet you didn't even know it, lol. I’ve worked in Health Care for quite some time now and have written extensively for my job, but it wasn't until about three years ago that I started writing fiction.

What inspired you to write your first book?
Reading. Plain and simple, reading is the thing that makes my mind question. I had read the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning, and I thought the fae kind of got a bad rap in that world. Well, let’s just tell the truth here; it wasn’t the fae that got a bad rap, it was V’lane. He captured my interest from the moment he appeared in the series, and I kept thinking “what if the fae were misunderstood?”

I think this one question was the catalyst that allowed my mind to be open to the characters that came calling later on.

When you first started writing Five, did you plan for it to be a series?
Yes, although, I didn’t expect it to be more than one book. It’s funny because the story has grown so much since I started it. I’ve always known how it will end, but the middle pieces have surprised even me.

Which of your characters do you relate to most and why?
Rayla is probably the most relatable because I am in her head the most, but I have a special connection with Fexlie. She doesn’t actually play as big of a role in this series as I thought she would. She is the first character from my Elemental Enmity series that I met.

What is a secret about you that nobody else knows?
I’m addicted to Vampire Diaries on the CW. I like the TV series better than I did the books. Damon bothered me in the books, but now I secretly hope he gets the girl. I can’t stand Stephen in the TV version.

If your real life as a teenager was a Young Adult book, what would you, the main character, be like?
Oh, good question. Quiet and reserved, watching and listening. I’d probably be a detective or something along those lines.

What book have you read too many times to count?
It’s probably a tie between Twilight and Chronicles of Narnia.

What is the best piece of writing advice you ever received?
Trust yourself.

If you could hop into the life of any fictional character, who would it be and why?
Goodness, this one is hard. The question is, would I be able to hop out? I’d have to say Hermione Granger. That girl is amazing!

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
Characters are not made up. They tell the story with my hands.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?
Spend time with my husband and kids. I like to go to the movies or play miniature golf, anything that gets my kids excited.

Are any of the things in your books based on real life experiences or purely all imagination?
100% imagination baby!

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I’d have to say Rayla and Zach’s first date. It was pure fun.

Thank you Christie, for taking the time with us today! We know how busy you are, and we really appreciate you!
Thanks so much for having me here today, Gabby! I loved answering your questions. Happy Reading everyone!

About the Author:
I grew up daydreaming about fairytales, and my love for discovering new worlds has never died. I am not one of those writers who always knew I would write. I thought that was what other people did until one day a few years ago, I took a challenge from a friend and typed my first words. My journey has been wonderful, and I cannot imagine a day where I would ever give up writing now. My love for reading is what fueled my imagination in the first place and still does. When I am not writing or reading, I am enjoying family time with my husband and two children. We live in a quiet community under the Wellsville mountains in Utah, and I am so thankful for the rich life I have been blessed with.

  1. Quite surprised to read that someone doesn't like Stephan in VD, usually people go nuts for him. Great interview, I love getting to know a bit more about the writers behind the books. This book sounds like it's just my cup of tea.

  2. Hi Sarah! Thanks, I hope you enjoy it. Yeah I'm kind of weird that way. Vampire Diaries has taken on a different scope in my mind with the TV show. Could be the actors ;)

  3. I actually don't have a favorite paranormal book. I obviously need to read more of the genre.

  5. Hi Mary! I don't know that I have a favorite paranormal book, but I love the genre. It is the coolest in my popinion because anything can happen. Paranormal is magic and I love thinking about what is possible.
