About the Author:
As a child, Angela Corbett’s most prized possession was a set of read-along books. She used to follow along with the narrator on the stereo and dream of when she would be able to read by herself. Her childhood reading habit led her to consider her future career. However, after consulting with her parents, she realized she had already exceeded hobbit height and since fairies and dragonslayers were tricky jobs to get, she decided she wanted to create worlds of her own. She started writing poetry in elementary school and worked as a journalist in high school and college, but could never leave her love for writing fiction behind.

She is a graduate of Westminster College where she double majored in communication and sociology. She has worked as a journalist, freelance writer, and director of communications and marketing. She loves classic cars, traveling, and escaping in a good book. She lives in Utah with her incredibly supportive husband and their five-pound Pomeranian, Pippin, whose following of fangirls could rival Justin Bieber’s.

Eternal Starling is her debut novel and the first book in the Emblem of Eternity trilogy.

Book Review: Awaken by Sarah M. Ross

Awaken (Patronus #1) by Sarah M. Ross
Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal Romance)
Date Published: January 27, 2012
Publisher: Self

Lucy Donovan was supposed to have a weekend of fun in the sun, celebrating her upcoming graduation from college. In a split second, everything changed. A drunk driver ended Lucy’s mortal life.

Lucy opens her eyes to a world she never imagined possible and a new destiny: as a Patronus, a guardian of spirits. Adjusting to her new role and abilities while negotiating this confusing realm will test her limits and push her further than she ever dreamed she would go. From wayward spirits who don’t want her help to soul stealing vampires, and even a stuck-up British royal, Lucy must brave them all to save one spirit she can’t bear to lose.

Further complicating her life is an inexplicable yet growing connection she feels to a member of her team, Max, whose mysterious behavior leaves her both confused and intrigued.

Waking up dead was just the beginning of her problems. Lucy’s death is about to become the greatest adventure of her life.

Awaken is the first book in the Patronus series by Sarah M. Ross. Awaken has a different and interesting premise. It spins a new interpretation of who guardian angels might me and what limbo is and makes an intriguing little story. The term patronus kept making me think of Harry Potter. The two ideas are nothing alike. The main character, Lucy, has a lot of growing to do, and as of right now, she has no common sense. So, that was pretty frustrating, but I hope we get to see her mature in the coming books as she comes to terms with who and what she is now. The romance was super quick, but the history behind it has me curious. I'm anxious to see where the author takes this.

Awaken by Sarah M. Ross was provided to me by the author for review. The opinions are my own.
The Book Trailer:
author
Sarah started her obsession with reading at an early age, often sneaking BabySitter Club and Nancy Drew books into math class. She would read any book she could get her hands on. Her love of reading quickly evolved into a love of writing and stories began to pour out of her.

She grew up in Pittsburgh, graduated from The University of Pittsburgh with a degree in English, and taught 8th graders to love reading as much as she does for several years. Sarah will always be a proud member of the Steelers' Nation, but couldn't take the cold and moved her frozen tush to Florida where she now lives with her family and two cats. You will find her now with her trusty Kindle in hand and toes in the sand!

Sarah's debut novel, AWAKEN, released in January, 2012. Other novels include AVENGE, ATONE, ECHO OF AN EARTH ANGEL, and INHALE EXHALE. Check out my interview with Sarah M. Ross!!

‘They were torment for me too.’

Tour! A Review of The Darkest Part by Trisha Wolfe!

Genre: New Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: August 6, 2013
Publisher: Self

The Blurb:
Pressing the boundaries of both the psyche and the heart, Sam and Holden embark on a dangerous journey that will test the limits of love.

Sam Wintry’s life used to be almost perfect. She was engaged to her childhood best friend and high school sweetheart, Tyler Marks, planning an amazing cross-country honeymoon during her college break. But after a hit-and-run leaves her in ruin, she begins seeing Tyler’s fractured, ghostly presence, and her family believes she’s losing her mind. Not until she completes their journey, stopping along the way to scatter Tyler's remains, will Tyler be able cross over. Only...is Sam ready for him to leave her?

When the black sheep of the Marks' family, Holden Marks, returns to check on Tyler's case, Sam convinces him to give her his brother's ashes. Despite their shaky history, she needs him...plus, he owes it to Sam and his brother. What she doesn’t count on is Holden’s relentlessness to go on the trip.

On the road, Holden realizes just how unhinged Sam has become. Dealing with her psychosis forces him to confront his dark past, making it harder to keep secrets hidden that should remain buried. Especially from Sam, the only woman he’s ever loved. And as Sam starts to unravel the truth, she begins to question if the brother she's unwillingly falling for again is in an even darker place than her.

My Review:
The Darkest Part is the first book in the Living Heartwood Series by Trisha Wolfe. I was already a fan of Trisha Wolfe's after reading Of Silver and Beasts, so I went into this book with some pretty high expectations. It didn't let me down at all. The main characters are wonderfully built. I felt like I truly knew them as I read, and the more I read the more I found out. I started this book in the morning, and didn't put it down until I was done with it. (Thankfully, I didn't have to go to work that day, and was able to read it all in one sitting, because I may have gone crazy otherwise)

I love that I'm still wondering, even after the book is over: Was it really Tyler or was it all in her head? I really thought it was all in her head, until Tyler said something. One little thing has me questioning what I thought I knew. If you've read it, I'm curious to know what you think too.

Whether it be a psychosis or not, Sam was a completely believable character. I was drawn into her life. The author is gifted in that she can truly have you feeling all the things her characters feel. Holden was amazing. I liked him from the start, and the way he treated Sam through this whole thing when he was grieving himself was so selfless. I'm hooked on Trisha Wolfe's writing. I can't wait for more from this series and her other books as well!
