My 10 Least Favorite Characters
(In no particular order)

1.
Character Name: Bill
Book Title: Passion
Author: Lauren Kate
Why I didn't like them? He was a fun addition at first, that became more and more annoying as time went on. Plus, it was pretty obvious he had ulterior motives, but of course Luce had no idea.

2.
Character Name: The Grandmother
Book Title: Arson
Author: Estevan Vega
Why I didn't like them? There is mean... and then there is The Grandmother who was unnecessarily abusive and cruel.

3.
Character Name: The Violent Naked guy
Book Title: The Help
Author: Kathryn Stockett
Why I didn't like them? I LOVED this book, but I didn't see the point in having the violent naked guy. He was annoying and pointless. I'm glad he was left out of the movie.

4.
Character Name: Sebastian
Book Title: the City of Fallen Angels
Author: Cassandra Clare
Why I didn't like them? Would he just die already!?!?

5.
Character Name: Dizzy
Book Title: The Predicteds
Author: Christine Seifert
Why I didn't like them? Superficial to the extreme.

6.
Character Name: Zara
Book Title: Need
Author: Carrie Jones
Why I didn't like them? The most interesting part about her is her knowledge of phobias.

7.
Character Name: Lena
Book Title: Beautiful Creatures
Author: Cami Garcia
Why I didn't like them? She could be destined to turn good or destined to turn bad. We don't know yet, but what we do know is she is going to whine about it.

8, 9, & 10.
Character Name: Bethany, Gabriel, & Ivy
Book Title: Halo
Author: Alexandra Adornetto
Why I didn't like them? Not believable angels. Too ignorant of the World. How can an angel save the world if they know nothing about it? It just doesn't make sense that angels wouldn't have more knowledge and be better adapted than they were in this book.

1.

Author: D. Apodaca
Why I like him: Troubled bad boy with a hidden soft side. *swoon*

Why I like him: Who can resist a guy who's related to a Greek god?

4.

Author: Melanie Dickerson
Why I like him: He's gruff and scary, but once you see his heart, he makes you melt.

5.

Author: Leanna Renee Hieber
Why I like him:  I love his personality, even when he's a tad naughty. Plus he has an English accent.

6.
Character Name: Jace
Book Title: City of Fallen Angels
Author: Cassandra Clare
Why I like him: This was my least favorite book in the series, but Jace won me over in the previous books. He's still the stuff!

7.
Character Name: Daniel Grigori
Book Title: Passion
Author: Lauren Kate
Why I like him: Same as above. This book was my least fave in the series, but it's not Daniel's fault.

8.
Character Name: Michael
Book Title: Crossroads
Author: Mary Ting
Why I like him: He's so dedicated, loyal, and protective. It's hard not to love him. Although, after reading Between (the sequel to Crossroads), he may have some competition for my 2012 top 10 lists.

9.
Character Name: Kayne
Book Title: Stained
Author: Ella James
Why I like him: He's sarcastic, snarky, rude, and arrogant. so, naturally I love him. :o)

10.
Character Name: Angel of Death
Book Title: On a Dark Wing
Author: Jordan Dane
Why I like him:I probably shouldn't like him since he's the Angel of Death and all, but he was so human and vulnerable at times that I just couldn't help it.

Teaser Tuesday: Everneath by Brodi Ashton

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
My teaser this week is from Everneath by Brodi Ashton:

"You've had plenty of forfeits," I said. "What exactly makes me different?"
"I wish I knew. I really do." He let out a deep breath and stood up as if he would leave. "Think about it. I'm offering immortality. You could be like me."

Do you have a blog? Post a link to your Teaser Tuesday post in the comments. No blog? Post a Teaser in the comments anyway!

Book Review: The Lure of Shapinsay by Krista Holle

Genre: Young Adult (Paranormal/Fantasy Romance)

The Lure of Shapinsay is the first novel by Krista Holle. Just after a half-selkie baby is murdered in the ocean, Kait is spotted along the shore by a selkie man. Seeking revenge, that night the selkie man enters her house, waking her. She pleads her innocence, and he takes off for the ocean leaving her uncontrollably lured by him. Kait will do anything to be re-united with him, even if it costs her her life.

Before reading this book, selkies were a completely new concept to me. I did a little research and found that selkies are ocean dwellers who look like seals, but are able to shed their skin on land to temporarily become human. The book does a great job introducing you to them and the lure they have over humans. The plot revolves primarily around Kait and Eamon, the selkie man. There are a few additional characters such as Kait's brother, Blair, Magnum, whom Blair is arranging to marry Kait, and Tipper, a woman who is best explained by reading the book. The author did a wonderful job bringing her them all to life. I'm always attracted to a great forbidden love story. Then you add in this new legendary creature and it gives you something completely unique. A sequel to this book would be wonderful as there are many questions I have about things that were hinted at throughout the story. The story was highly intriguing and I learned something new. It has inspired me to do some extra research on my own to learn more about the legends surrounding the selkies.

To learn more about this book and the author, visit Krista Holle's website, Blog, and Twitter.

This book was provided by the author for review. The opinions are my own.

Title: Starcrossed
Author: Josephine Angelini
Published: May 31, 2011
Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers
My Review

Buy it!

Why I liked it: I love Greek Mythology. Starcrossed takes those legends and brings them to present day. It has constant action, plus add in some great spins on the romance. You can't get much better than this.

Synopsis: How do you defy destiny?

Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history.

As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart.

Title: The Hunger Games
Author: Suzanne Collins

Buy it!

Why I liked it: I was probably one of the last people to have read this series. Better late than never. Once I started, it was impossible to put down. The whole series was engrossing and addictive! Each book made you feel like you were a part of it's World.

Synopsis: Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games." The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When Kat's sister is chosen by lottery, Kat steps up to go in her place.

Title: A Lineage of Grace
Author: Francine Rivers
Published: October 1, 2009
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers
My Review

Buy it!

Why I liked it: This book introduced you to various biblical females and told their stories from their point of view. It amazed me how much we can still relate to these women today. This is a book you can read again and again, and learn something new each time.

Synopsis: In this compilation of the five books in the best-selling Lineage of Grace series by Francine Rivers, we meet the five women whom God chose—Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, and Mary. Each was faced with extraordinary—even scandalous—challenges. Each took great personal risk to fulfill her calling. Each was destined to play a key role in the lineage of Jesus Christ, the Savior of the World.

Title: The Survivors

My Review

Buy it!

Why I liked it: The Survivors blends mythology, history, and fiction so well, I found myself researching to find out what is real and what came from the mind of the author. I found the book to be highly original and was introduced to some creatures I had never heard of before.

Synopsis: In 1692, when witch trials gripped the community of Salem, Massachusetts, twenty-six children were accused as witches, exiled, and left for dead. Fourteen of them survived.
The Survivors is the first installment of the tantalizing tales of the fourteen ill-fated Survivors and their descendants, who have been content in hiding for over three centuries. Isolated on a Montana mountainside, only Sadie, the rogue daughter, dares to abandon the family's sacred hiding place. But no matter how far Sadie runs, something always pulls her back.
On a muggy summer night in Tennessee, she witnesses a shocking scene that will change her life forever. It is the first in a sequence of events that will drag her from the human world she's sought to belong to for over a century and send her back to her Puritanical family and into an uncertain future filled with cunning witches, mysterious nosferatu shape-shifters, dangerous eretica and vieczy vampires, millennia-old mythology, and the search for her own mortality. After all...

My Review

Buy it!

Why I liked it: Finally an angel book with strong, intelligent angels!!! I got tired of angels looking weak and ignorant of the ways of the world like you see in so many other books out there right now. I was glad to finally read a book that depicts angels closer to how I imagine them to be.

Synopsis: In modern times, mankind believes they know all that there is to know about the world around them. Arrogant in their ignorance, they travel through life completely unaware of the other beings in their midst, the other Children of Creation. Celestial Angels and Fallen walk amongst them unseen, while the third beings of creation, the Guardians, live along side them, protecting them from attacks of the Fallen.

Daniella Rossi is a nineteen year old college student who sees the world quite differently than those around her. From infancy, she was aware of the beings that walked among her kind who were not like them, as well as her own personal Guardian who watched over her. Dani always knew she was different, but she never dreamed the full scope of her importance.

Follow Dani as her life takes an unexpected turn when a new Guardian is assigned to replace her lifelong companion and friend. Much older, more experienced, and socially awkward, Nathaniel must learn to adjust himself to fit into Dani’s world in order to guard her without drawing unwanted attention. While the Fallen are determined to capture Dani, she and Nathaniel find themselves developing a bond that goes far beyond that of Guardian and charge. Facing the strains of a brewing war and forbidden affections, will they be ready for the coming battle? Will Dani be able to handle the truth of her existence and destiny?

Five years ago Abbey Chandler cheated Death. She survived a horrific car accident, but her lucky break came at the expense of her mother’s life and changed everything. After she crossed paths with Death—by taking the hand of an ethereal boy made of clouds and sky—she would never be normal again.
