Blog Tour! A Review of Breaking Fences by Juliana Haygert (Book Now Titled: Breaking Away)

Breaking Fences (The Breaking Series #2) by Juliana Haygert
Book Now Titled: Breaking Away
Genre: New Adult (Contemporary Romance)
Date Published: June 13, 2014
Publisher: Self

All Beatriz “Bia” Fernandes wants is to prove herself—to her family and friends—though it’s hard to prove anything with an overbearing father and three famous polo-playing older brothers. After her acceptance into college results in a heated family argument, the Brazilian girl leaves everything behind to find her own American dream.

College life away from home is perfect until the people she believes to be her friends turn on her. With lies and rumors threatening to suffocate her, Bia turns to her only freedom. Riding.

But one thing gets in the way of her escape. Garrett Blackwell and his bad cowboy attitude. Working at the ranch is his obligation, bugging Bia is his newfound hobby. His thick skin and easy grin don’t hide what Bia already knows—this misunderstood and lonely cowboy fights his own demons. Brushing horses’ coats and mucking out stalls shouldn’t be this sexy, and it isn’t long before he becomes a part of her distraction.

However, escaping won’t solve her problems, and it’s up to Bia to break down the fences around her and prove her strength—not to her family and friends, but to herself … and for Garrett. Because standing on her own doesn’t have to mean standing alone.

** Companion novel of Breaking the Reins. Can be read out of order **
** For mature readers (17+) **

Breaking Fences is the second book in the Breaking Series by Juliana Haygert. This series can be read out of order. Each book stands alone just fine. This book is told from Bia's point of view, but don't worry we get to see Hannah and Leo too. Because of Bia's Brazilian background, petty college students are making her college experience pretty hellish. I never knew Brazilians had a stereotype. Sure, I always thought of them as beautiful people because of the models and what not, but that's really all I think of when I think Brazil. Stereotypes suck. Audrey is a horrible excuse for a human, and her friends are no better. Poor Bia. I wanted to hop in and kick their butts.

I love Bia. She's a lot of fun, and even though she may lose herself, she's perfectly capable of finding herself again and coming out of it better. Don't know what I'm talking about? Read the book. We've all felt like Bia at some point. The moments when she was at the ranch were my favorite. I enjoyed being around the horses vicariously through her. When Garret was with her at the ranch, those moments were that much better.

Garrett is an adorable Colorado Cowboy, and there is some definite chemistry between him and Bia, but is he hiding something? Hmmmm.

I loved this story. Give me horses and a love story any day and I'm in literary heaven! Thank you Juliana!
