Book Review: Eve by Anna Carey

Eve (Eve #1) by Anna Carey
Genre: Young Adult (Dystopian Romance)
Date Published: October 4, 2011
Publisher: HarperTeen

The Blurb:
The year is 2032, sixteen years after a deadly virus—and the vaccine intended to protect against it—wiped out most of the earth’s population. The night before eighteen-year-old Eve’s graduation from her all-girls school she discovers what really happens to new graduates, and the horrifying fate that awaits her.

Fleeing the only home she’s ever known, Eve sets off on a long, treacherous journey, searching for a place she can survive. Along the way she encounters Caleb, a rough, rebellious boy living in the wild. Separated from men her whole life, Eve has been taught to fear them, but Caleb slowly wins her trust...and her heart. He promises to protect her, but when soldiers begin hunting them, Eve must choose between true love and her life.

My Review:
Eve is the first book in the Eve Series by Anna Carey. This was a very hard book to rate. There was something completely addictive about this book that made it very hard to put down. With that being said, I'm not a huge fan of the main character. She has a lot of growing up to do. In her defense, she was very sheltered her whole life not to mention she'd been falsely educated(brainwashed) in school. So, there is hope for her as she learns to real ways of the world. I'd like to see more emotion from her in future books. Right now, she leaves people and lets them go way too easily. I really like Caleb and Arden. Arden is a strong girl. She  quickly learned how to survive and take care of herself and others. She grew on me through the story. The ending surprised and disappointed me, but it definitely left me wanting more.

She graduated from New York University and has an MFA in fiction from Brooklyn College. She currently lives in Los Angeles, where she can be found writing, reading, and telling elaborate, only moderately interesting stories about her dog. Look for her new series, Blackbird, in Fall 2014.

  1. I tried giving this one a read when it first came out but I just couldn't get into it the first time or the second time I borrowed it from the library. I might have to give it another go though. Great review.
