Owlet Blog Tour: A Review & Read-a-Long of Owlet by Emma Michaels

Genre: Young Adult (Fantasy w/ a touch of Romance)
Published: October 13, 2012
Publisher: Tribute Books

The Blurb:
Somewhere between falling and flying… there is a girl.

Iris has a secret. She lost her memory eight years ago and never told a living soul. After an asthma attack one night she finds out that her dreams of a strange house on a snowy island may be a memory resurfacing but the more she learns about the past the more she realizes the life she has been living is a lie. As the façade her father has built starts to crumble around her she will have to decide which means more to her; the truth or her life.

My Review:
Owlet is the first book in the Society of Feathers Series by Emma Michaels.  At first I though it was going to be about people who shape shift into birds, but I quickly found that was not the case. The book was very fast paced. There was a lot of information given very quickly and it left me in a whirlwind trying to make sense of some of it.  Iris, the main character, is very relatable, and I learned about her past and what she is right along with her. There are so many details that put this world together. I think I felt just as overwhelmed as Iris did. Falcon just seems adorable, and I can't wait to learn more about him. I really like the link between birds and these people. It makes this book very unique.

The ARC of Owlet by Emma Michaels was provided to me by Tribute Books for review. The opinions are my own.

Read -a-Long
Iris watched the young Falcon try to put on a brave face and she realized that he had been far better at it back then. His expression grew blank, hiding all the emotions that were racing through his soul, and nodded.

“I am so sorry. I am so sorry, Falcon,” Roger kept repeating.

“I will come back here after. I will give up my place and she will find me. She will find me one day,” Falcon said softly and, looking back, nodded to Iris to come towards him. Iris watched as her younger self went to Falcon and grabbed his hand the moment she was close enough. He bent down and whispered something in her ear. Her younger self just nodded and Roger handed them both backpacks, now realizing that she had heard what he’d said about her mother. Iris looked away and thought hard about wanting to know what Falcon had said.

As though her dream heard her wish, Falcon was frozen in place, his lips next to her ear. She let herself relax and tried to concentrate on hearing his words and understanding them. “Come back for me, Izzy, my sparrow. Please remember this place no matter what. Then you will remember me.”

Iris tried to keep a hold on her emotions but she felt warm tears on her cheeks. “I am sorry. I am so sorry that I can’t remember,” she said to his younger self.

“You are still my sparrow. No matter what.”

She heard his emotional words as his voice grew louder. She felt as if he was shaking her; hands she couldn’t see were wiping away her tears. She just wanted to be close to him, not the kind of closeness that came from a memory, but the kind of closeness where she could make new memories. She didn’t want to miss another moment with him even though she still wasn’t quite sure what to feel.

“Izzy, please don’t cry.”
