A Hunter's Angel Blog Tour: Interview with Cera DuBois and Contest!

We are excited to have Cera DuBois joining us for our stop along A Hunter's Angel Blog Tour! Cera is the author of A Hunter's Angel, the first book in The Hunter's Dagger Series.

Thanks for having me today!

How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing off and on since high school. But didn’t get serious with it until four years ago.

What inspired you to write your first book?

“You’d be surprised, Bella, at how often my kind are the source behind the horrors in your human news.”
Edward from Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer, page 25. This line inspired the book and eventually the whole series.

Which of your characters do you relate to most and why?

I would have to say I relate the most with Grace. She sometimes feels a little like she doesn’t belong and who hasn’t felt that way?

What is a secret about you that nobody else knows?
I’m a huge Civil War buff.

If your real life as a teenager was a Young Adult book, what would you, the main character, be like?
LOL...Boring! I grew up on a farm, didn’t play sports, or was in the band. My graduating class had only 75 people in it (I think). Oh, and I didn’t date or have a ton of friend.
What book have you read too many times to count?
The North and South series and the Kent Family Chronicles by John Jakes.
If you could hop into the life of any book character for a day, who would it be, and why?
Oh, that is a tough question! I’d love to be in Scarlet O’Hara’s shoes just for a day (the last day of the book)... Because if I was, Rhett wouldn’t have been delivering that famous line—we all know the one—and he sure as hell wouldn’t have walked away!
What is the best piece of writing advice you have ever received?
To read Debra Dixon’s Goals, Motivation and Conflict by an editor. Up until that time, I never had a real handle on the concepts.

What was one of the most surprising things you learned in creating your books?
I think the thing that surprises me the most in this journey is all the wonderful friends I’ve collected along the way. Without them, I don’t think I’d have ever gotten here.

What do you like to do when you're not writing?

I like to work in the garden and I love to read.

What was your favorite chapter (or part) to write and why?
I loved writing the reveal scene where Ian tells Grace he’s a vampire... I also loved the scene where she tells her best friend and lieutenant, Ben Anders, about Ian. That was just a hoot to write

  2. I too enjoy gardening and reading in my spare time. Are you going to incorporate Civil War info into any of your books since you are a Civil War buff? That would be interesting... Awesome interview and great giveaway! Thanks for the opportunity to win!

    1. Thank you, Amanda...

If I do a Civil War story, it would probably be a straight historical and published under my real name. I've started one that I'm thinking about finishing, but that won't be for a while. I'm already committed to writing 6 books.

  5. Terrific interview!

Cera, I had to laugh when I read how you'd like to be Scarlett O'Hara for the last day in the book...I've often thought the same thing with the same outcome. Rhett wouldn't have ever uttered those famous words or walked out that door! lol

    Congrats on your book!!
